Nick Fury, the original hero of Earth!

Last review from this series! Nick Fury has lots of secrets, and now, it is time for those secrets to be known!

"WOW!" Is the word that comes to my mind, when reading this amazing issue! Just when I thought all the secrets, lies, and deception were all that Original Sin had to offer [and offered it masterfully], I find out that those elements were only the tip of the iceberg! Jason Aaron really, really outdid himself with this fifth issue, and introduced to us the true [definitive] origin of Nick Fury and his secret behind why he does what he does. You WILL NOT want to pass on this issue, or this entire main event series that Jason Aaron has been writing!

    You ready for this?

Last issue, Jason Aaron focused on secrets, lies, and deception to carry it along. He did a masterful job at pulling it off; showing off many of the heroes that drive his series forward; and proving to us readers how secrets really drive Original Sin! Now however, Aaron focuses on revealing secrets, instead of establishing more. (Don't worry, Aaron still has plenty of secrets in him; and briefly teases to what the next issue will be about at the end of this issue!) What better secret to reveal [in this issue] then the true origin of the super spy himself, Nick Fury!

If you ever pick up this issue, which I suggest you should; know that, if you ever didn't take Nick Fury seriously, you'll take him seriously after finishing this issue! That is how I felt about Jason Aaron's story for this fifth issue. I didn't care much for Fury before, but Aaron slowly made me like the character; especially when Fury seemingly died in issue 3. Fury dying caught my attention, and Jason Aaron took that attention and led it to this specific issue; which ultimately left me in a state of "WOW!"

    Man of action!

Jason Aaron handled Nick Fury's origin really nicely! He established circumstances that put Fury in the right place at the right time, and it eventually made him the Earth's first official superhero. He had the job at protecting the Earth, and taking none of the credit; from threats that were larger than what any organization on Earth could do. I really enjoyed how Aaron built on the fact that when Fury first started off as protector of Earth, there wasn't many heroes during his time. (Which was in the 1950s - 90s.) Aaron did an amazing job with this, and acknowleding it, on how Nick Fury had to make the call and know when somethings only he could handle; and how many heroes didn't pose a threat to Earth. I liked how Jason Aaron created this entire evolution of Nick Fury's character of being Earth's protector, and how he doesn't trust anyone [except himself] because of the position he's in. This secret being revealed helped make this the best issue so far, and really pivotal moment in answering the questions as to "Who Shot The Watcher?" I'm very interested in seeing what Jason Aaron will do next with the issues to come!

The artwork by Mike Deodato is perfect! He helped told Jason Aaron's story and made it a really memorable experience. This amazing issue couldn't have been achieved without him!

    No? Good!

Overall this was a phenomenal issue by the Original Sin creative team and still has me on the edge of my seat! Can't wait for the next issue! 5 out of 5.

After the reveal at the end of the previous issue, it only makes sense that we delve a little into the affairs of Nick Fury. However, as interesting as this tale may be, it kind of comes out of the left park and adds very little to the overall event ultimately, coming across as almost a filler issue. For what it is, though, this is a thoroughly enjoyable character study that helps to add to the personal nature of the narrative. The title tells it all; we learn about the secret life Nick Fury has ...
