Orella lives on the distant island of Florena in the South Pacific. There are only women on the island.

Orella explains to Kal-El that they came from the distant planet Matrion, being a race of warrior women.

The women on Florena made a bait to bring Kal-El to the island, drawing lots for who would marry him. The intent was that this marriage would start a future race of superwomen who could improve their genome so that one day they could return to Planet Matrion.

They left because the planet's atmosphere began to affect the physiology of the women.

Superman could not escape from the island of Florena because there was an artificial Kryptonite radiation barrier.

In the lottery to choose who would marry Superman, Orella cheated.

A test of strength was made, and if Superman lost, he would have to marry. Orella first gave Superman a souvenir, a mini palm tree, which was actually a device that was a siphon that transmitted Kal-El's super-strength to Orella.

The trick was discovered and the elderly woman of Florena turned off the artificial kryptonite barrier and let Superman go.

But later Superman used his telescopic vision to observe Planet Matrion, which was drying up with its seas and dead civilization.
