Oliver Haddo is a malevolent magician, who seeks the means to create life via his sorcery.
Based on the real life occultist Aleister Crowley, Oliver Haddo is the star of W. Somerset Maugham's novel The Magician. Crowley subsequently adopted the name Oliver Haddo as a pen name to write a critique of the novel, in which he accused Maugham of plagiarism. The novel was adapted into a film in 1925, starring Paul Wegener as Haddo. Alan Moore later used Haddo as the antagonist of his League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century series.
