Origin
Rintaro Okabe grew up around the Ikebukoru district of Tokyo, Japan alongside his childhood friend Mayuri. Growing up Rintaro watched a lot of Sci-fi movies and shows that influenced his personality, and a variety of his gimmicks. His nickname is formed by combining parts of his full name, the Oka- from his surname, and Rin- from his given name. Being influenced by a lot of Sci-Fi media Okarin proclaims himself a "Mad Scientist", and gave himself a new name for this gimmick, "Hououin Kyouma", a name that no one but himself calls him by. Okarin founded the "Future Gadget Laboratory" aside his fellow colleague from the Tokyo Electronics University, Itaru. They are situated above a CRT store in Akibara where he, Mayuri, and Itaru collaborate to create devices they have claimed are for the purpose of bettering humanity.
