The Return of Ra-Ka-Tep (18 pages)

A mysterious priest from the Cult of Anubis, using the Medallion of Anubis, raises the living mummy Ra-Ka-Tep from the depths of the nile where he had plunged at the conclusion of The Occult Files of Doctor Spektor #3. The priest swears revenge on Dr. Adam Spektor for his defeat of Ra-Ka-Tep, and then has the mummy, who is under his power, pose as a museum artifact for the Marshal Natural History Museum in the United States. Dr. Spektor visits the museum with his secretary Lakota Rainflower and their friend, psychic Elliott Kane. The three discuss Spektor and Lakota's run-in with the mummy months earlier. The priest of the Anubis cult introduces himself to them as Dr. Turhan, the archaeologist who discovered Ra-Ka-Tep in the Nile.

Learning that Spektor and his friends plan to attend a costume party that night, Turhan revives Ra-Ka-Tep and takes him from the museum, the mummy attacking a museum security guard on the way. At the party, Elliott Kane has a psychic premonition that something bad is going to happen. Spektor gets a call from police inspector Frank Sinke telling him about the disturbance at the museum. Suddenly, the living mummy crashes through a window into the midst of the revelry, knocking out both Spektor and Kane before carrying Lakota off into the night.

Using a piece of bandage left behind by Ra-Ka-Tep, Elliott Kane manages to trace him to an abandoned subway tunnel. Dr. Spektor sets off in pursuit of the monster while Kane goes for the authorities. While Spektor stops off at Spektor Manor to collect the items he will need to battle the ancient undead, Dr. Turhan reveals his plan to use a potion to turn Lakota into a lifeless mummy. Despite Ra-Ka-Tep's love for Lakota, he must cooperate because of Turhan's possession of the Medallion of Anubis. However, Spektor arrives to interrupt the ceremony, and engages in battle with Ra-Ka-Tep. Spektor reveals that he possesses the amulet of Amon -Ra, who ruled all the Egyptian gods, including Anubis. Spektor and Turhan battle for control of the mummy, until Lakota revives and tilts the battle in Spektor's favor by grabbing the Medallion of Anubis from Turhan's grip.

Ra-Ka-Tep kills Turhan and also destroys both medallions, thus regaining control over his own actions. As the mummy is about to attack Dr. Spektor, the police arrive and drive Ra-Ka-Tep away with a flamethrower. Ra-Ka-Tep disappears into the labyrinth of underground tunnels, leaving Inspector Sinke to declare that he has at last seen evidence of the supernatural, while Spektor and Lakota express their hope that they have seen the last of Ra-Ka-Tep.

    When Gods Collide (6 pages)

Dr. Spektor translates the inscriptions on an ancient tablet to relate the origins of the Warrior Gods and the Dark Gods, and the battle between Zagron, Prince of the Warrior Gods, and Neffron, KIng of the Dark Gods, over the love of the goddess Reea. The battle resulted in the Warrior Gods being cast into limbo, while the Dark Gods continue to exist on earth, but only as shadowy forms who can grant magical boons to their human servants.
