Nynaeve al'Meara

Origin

Born and raised in Emond's Field in the Two Rivers, Nynaeve al'Meara was made the Wisdom of her village at a very young age. In her youth she helped to take care of numerous young children, including Rand al'Thor, Mat Cauthon, Perrin Aybara and Egwene al'Vere. Her father taught her how to hunt, track, fish, and take care of herself in the wild.

Creation

Nynaeve was created by Robert Jordan for his book series The Wheel of Time, making her first appearance in the first book of the series, The Eye of the World. She made her first comic appearance in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World #4, written by Jordan and Chuck Dixon and illustrated by Chase Conley.

Major Story Arcs

The Eye of the World

After her town is attacked by Trollocs, Nynaeve does her best to care for the wounded. Soon she realizes that four of the villagers, Rand, Mat, Perrin and Egwene, have been whisked away by the mysterious Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred. Nynaeve pursues the group, intercepting them in Baerlon with the intention of taking the four youths back to Emond's Field. She is convinced to travel along with the group rather than returning to the Two Rivers. The group seeks refuge in the corrupted city of Shadar Logoth, where they are separated from one another, with Nynaeve finding herself on her own. She is soon able to catch up with Moiraine and Lan, the latter of whom she is growing increasingly attracted to. At this time she also learns that she has great potential with the One Power, which she refuses to acknowledge. They travel towards Caemlyn, rescuing Egwene and Perrin from Whitecloaks along the way. In Caemlyn they reunite with Rand and Mat. The group travels to the Borderlands, and eventually to the Eye of the World, where they engage in a battle with members of the Forsaken, who are ultimately defeated by Rand channeling, which Nynaeve witnesses.

Powers and Abilities

Nynaeve is a channeler, one of the most powerful channelers of her Age. She is capable of wielding all five elements of the power in equal measure, which is rare, and channels with no preconceived notions, which makes her much more innovative than many other Aes Sedai. For some time she had a block, and was only able to channel when angry. She has a particular facility for Healing, being the first person ever to be capable of healing Stilling or Gentling, as well as the madness that was caused by the taint on Saidin. She is considered one of the greatest Healers of all time. As well as her Power-enhanced healing ability, she is skilled with herbs. She has a form of Foretelling tied to the weather: she can sense the presence of storms, which has evolved in a more figurative sense into allowing her to predict the coming of important conflicts or battles. She wears numerous angreal and ter'angreal that enhance her already formidable channeling ability.
