Northstar
Character » Northstar appears in 1777 issues.
Twin brother of Aurora, Northstar is the haughty mutant speedster affiliated with the X-Men, though he was originally a member of Alpha Flight. He is most famous for being the first openly gay superhero.
Whats up with his hair?
I just figured it was black with bright light reflecting off it. I also ignore anything done by Greg Land on Uncanny X-Men ;)

The only art that matters in regard to Northstar are the original Alpha Flight John Byrne comics. He and his sister Aurora have black hair. The white is simply artistic license, a way to show highlighting. It compliments their costumes. If you notice in Alpha Flight vol. 1 the original series, they only seem to have these white highlights when in their black and white costumes. When in street clothes, the traditional blue that most are familiar with is used to show highlights in their black hair. Furthermore, in the Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe both Jeanne-Marie and Jean-Paul are listed as having black hair.
As to it being a "gay thing," no self-respecting gay man goes gray, unless you're Anderson Cooper.
