THE GOOD: So far this series has generally recieved very little attention, both critically and comercially (issue 2 clocking in at 9,698 copies in north america ranking it at #175). However, I believe that this is one of the most interesting titles on the DC roster at the moment. Although Marv Wolfman`s writing, both in style and substance, is somewhat inconsistent, at its peak it is poetic and intriguing. The story itself is complex both formally, through its temporal cuts, and its content of a secret global cabal conspiracy and supernatural human genetics experiments which would suck in any die hard X-Files fan. There really isn`t any other book like it in the DC line up. THE BAD: The only consistently bad thing about this series is the art. Although Tom Mandrake`s rough style is suitably dark and moody, when it comes to giving the characters individually definition and depth he falls markedly short. Faces in particular are almost non-existent. The result is that it turns a character heavy script into a characterless comic. Its difficult to identify with characters that have no personal definition. THE VERDICT: Whatever flaws in the artwork, it is certainly not the worst it could be and definitely not a reason not to pick up this series. I highly recommend it and eagerly anticipate every issue. This series could easily become a continuing story in the Dark line of DC titles and I wouldn`t complain.
