    The title of this thread, "A man can be destroyed but not defeated."  reminded me of an episode of Star Trek Deep Space 9 in which Worf (and others) are captured by the Jem'Hadar.  Worf has to fight a series of fights (to the death).  In the final challenge he is being soundly beaten by 'The First," but he keeps getting back up; he REFUSES to stay down and absolutely WILL NOT GIVE UP...  Finally, The First yields to Worf saying, "I cannot beat this man, I can only kill him."   I've always found that interesting...
