Not what i expected
So i'm picking this up reluctantly. My local Comic guy shoved it into my pull box. I'm thinking... bleh.
So i'm reading and its actually a bunch of short stories from the island about how they're all adapting to life. It is utterly awesome. A Wolverine / Nightcrawler feature. Magneto and New X-men feature. After a couple of these stories you sit there and ask yourself, "Are the X-men losing or winning? Did Magneto have it right all along? Is Cyclops really a combination of Xavier and Magneto? How long can they survive on the island?"
In the end you feel hopeful, but you know for a fact that this island is a volatile powder keg just waiting for one of two things. Either they're going to be attacked to hell with lazers and wrathful fearful sapient weapons or they are going to have people that want to leave the island (which some see as a prison) snap form an insane rebellion and do something that damages all of mutant kind. If cyclops succeeds then all mutants will remain united like the inhumans. If he fails its pretty much the end of mutants.
each story in this book was good. i'm going to have to give it a 4.5
basically they kept me interested without a lot of action or forced action. i like stories and honestly, this book isnt really about the characters fighting, its about the characters living and i think it was done well. we don't need to be punching everyone all the time, sometimes we need books where we can get a good head-check on the characters. This book reveals a few interesting personality twists that make me more comfortable with situations we have been reading lately. Magneto's comfort and support with cyclops decision, Wolverine's support of Cyclops. A lot of these things made you go, "guh?" and now you get to read why.
