Not if an unexpected savior can help it. So Then I Said...
I wasn't expecting much from this comic. First off, it's about a chick in skimpy clothes who finds herself in Hell. And you get a crotch-shot on the cover of the very first issue. Not surprisingly, I enjoyed this issue. Surprisingly is how much I enjoyed this issue. Nancy's on the cover with a chainsaw and she's obviously in Hell. I already know that so I'm not here for a deep story. I guess not expecting too much allowed me to enjoy this issue for what it is. A campy story of a not-so-innocent girl that has somehow died and found herself in Hell and now must find a way out. It reminds me of Army of Darkness. Everything's done pretty well in this issue. The writing by El Torres and art by Juan Jose Ryp are appropriate for the story. Just because the premise is a little absurd doesn't mean the writing had to be sub-par and El Torres has been able to write a story interesting enough to satisfy his audience. He even manages to work in a cliff-hanger that actually makes me want to read Issue #2. I don't know if Juan Jose Ryp has ever been to Hell but the way he's drawn it seems like that's how Hell probably looks like. There's quite a bit of detail in the art, especially all the landscape. It's not your normal buildings and fields so Ryp really had to dig into his imagination.
