Royal Blood
Namor seeks something hidden in the very depths of the ocean he thought was merely a fable until recently. Namor must rally Atlantean's against a race of Atlantean Vampires.
My Thoughts:The first story arc of this series ties directly into the X-Men: Curse Of The Mutants story arc which pits mutants against vampires. Writer Stuart Moore tells a tale involving a hidden secret involving Atlantean's as we also learn more about Namor's past. That was probably the best thing about this comic as it led to the epic showdown between Namor and a certain someone from his past.
Another thing I liked about the story which I thought made it more interesting was the fact that a lot of Atlantean's didn't respect Namor in the way they once had. It made it more difficult for Namor to rally an army quickly enough to fight against the pursuing threat. But once a King always a King as Namor finds a way to bring salvation to his people in the end.
Emma Frost's appearance didn't really seem necessary in my opinion. I don't know what Marvel is trying to do with her and Namor but it's getting tiresome. I like both characters but I'm not enjoying them when they're together. The dialogue tends to be very bland. The story was much more engaging when Moore focused on more important matters.
The art is by Ariel Olivetti whose style I'm not very fond of. I sort of like it, but I don't like seeing it much. Fernando Blanco and Andres Guinaldo also contribute a little to the story as well. I did like the covers by Jae Lee and June Chung. Joe Quesada turned in a pretty nice variant cover also.
I'd recommend checking this out especially if you liked the Curse Of The Mutants story arc. It's a quick, fun read that gives Namor a chance to shine. Hopefully this series will last for a long time to come. I feel there's a lot of potential for great stories to be told.
