Reworking Bio (keeping a copy of it here just in case)

Well, I'm going to redo the bio... working a few plot lines, adding images, etc.  I'll always try to keep the most updated version of it saved here in this blog.

Origin

Sparta
Sparta
For this old soldier, it all began in the land of Sparta.  In 510 B.C., a woman gave birth to a strong son.  The boy's father decided to name him Demetrius.  Right away, both noticed something very different about Demetrius.  When he was young, the boy displayed exceptional strength.  Also, he would rarely cry if he was injured.  Unknown to the parents, their son was actually a mutant; and his abilities had only begun give light to their true potential.  However, they would not be able to see those abilities develop.

Torn Away
Torn Away
At the age of five, young Demetrius was torn from his home and plunged into a world of violence.  He was taken by the state in order to be transformed into a ruthless killing machine.  Spending the rest of his childhood in barracks, he lived a life filled with rigorous training.  Demetrius was trained in the use of the sword, shield, and spear.  However, the most important weapon in which he would be trained would be his brain.  He was taught intense military tactics, philosophy, and logic.  By the time he was eight years old, Demetrius possessed the ability to kill a full grown man.  When he was thirteen, he utilized his skills by taking his first life - a right of passage.  Finally, he was a true Spartan warrior.

When the boy turned fourteen, his mutant abilities were beginning to be manifest themselves.  He found that during the heat of battle, he became stronger and faster.  Demetrius' adrenaline was acting like a trigger or sorts.  It increased his strength, speed, and even his durability.  Whenever the boy received a strong laceration, his body was able to heal itself at an accelerated rate.  As Demetrius grew into a young man, these abilities became more potent.  Like the aging process of fine wine, these abilities grew stronger with age.

Early Military Experience

A One-Man Army
A One-Man Army
Demetrius was turning into an unstoppable killing machine.  Early in his career, his commanders sent him towards Sparta's borders to keep them secure.  In doing so, Demetrius was given his first real experience of military strategy.  Only twenty years at the time, the Spartan warrior quickly gained a  fierce reputation.  The abilities that had begun to manifest when he was a young man were maturing.

In combat, Demetrius displayed strength which allowed him to lift over twenty tons.  His fellow brothers in arms though that he was some sort of demigod.  Increased strength, enhanced speed, and prolonged endurance enabled Demetrius to survive.  Eventually, he was given command of his own regiment of Spartan troops.

The Persian Tide

A Member of the Guard
A Member of the Guard
In 480 B.C., things would change forever for the Spartan warrior.  He was thirty years old at the time, had received several commendations for his service, and was a member of the King Leonidas' personal guard - a position held with extreme honor.

Xerxes
Xerxes
The Persian Empire was the major world power at the time.  After they had conquered the mighty Babylonians, they had grown into one of the largest empires the world had ever seen.  Xerxes, their king, had set his eyes upon the Greece.  The Greeks were still divided into a group of city-states which were each ruled by kings.

Taking a Stand
Taking a Stand
King Leonidas would not let Sparta be conquered.  Instead, he pushed for an immediate march against Persia.  However, the Spartan council did not want their armies to go on the move during one of their religious holidays.  Therefore, King Leonidas chose 300 (the maximum amount of men he was legally allowed to take) of his personal guard and took them to Thermopylae.

In Battle
In Battle
It was there that the 300 Spartans took their stand against the overwhelming Persian force.  Valiantly, they fought against their foes within the Hot Gates.  It was there that Demetrius' abilities were truly put to the test.  As he fought on against the imposing Persian tide, his adrenaline was pushed to new levels.  As his strength and rage grew, he suddenly became an unstoppable killing machine.  At close range, the Persians were mercilessly slaughtered.  At one point in a skirmish against Persian cavalry, Demetrius skewered a horse with his pike, then launched the dead animal and its rider off the edge of a cliff.

Pushed to the Limit
Pushed to the Limit
The healing factor which Demetrius had also began to work harder than ever.  Lacerations and even shots from arrows were able to heal themselves in a matter of minutes.  At first, his fellow comrades began to think that Demetrius was some sort of god or demigod.  In actuality, Demetrius was also beginning to wonder what he was.  Whether or not he in fact was a god, or even a demigod for that matter, he would use his abilities to ensure the freedom of his people.

Eventually, the Spartans were betrayed.  Despite their valiance, they were fighting a losing battle.  However, there would never surrender.  If the Persians wanted to take their weapons, they would have to come and take them by force.  The Spartans would die before submitting to Persian rule.

Not wishing to waste any more of their men, the Persians took the cowards' way out.  Unleashing a deadly mass of arrows, they shot down the Spartans like dogs.  Finally, with his body full of arrows, Demetrius collapsed.  Laying next to his fallen comrades, he slowly faded into darkness.  However, his story was not over yet....

A few hours later, Demetrius woke up gasping for air.  His body had sweat out the arrows and had begun to heal itself.  The damage to his heart and lungs was beginning to be undone as well.  When he could finally walk, Demetrius was the only Spartan to leave Thermopylae.  Sometime later, he was able to unite with the remaining Spartan army against the Persians.  The Spartans had an overwhelming victory, destroying the Persians and thus bringing their conquest of Europe to a halt.

Choosing the Life of a Warrior
Choosing the Life of a Warrior
After Persia's initial defeat, Demetrius began to roam about Greece.  He joined several armies, giving them his talents.  Eventually, he became a champion of sorts.  Legendary among his countrymen, he was soon known simply as the Spartan.  Astonishingly, he did not age like those around him.  Instead, the Spartan's healing factor kept him looking like a man in his prime.  His strength was also increasing as well.  He was eventually able to lift well over fifty tons in times of heightened adrenaline.  Later on, his services were called upon by Alexander the Great.  Staying true to his calling of war, the Spartan marched with the Macedonian troops in a campaign which crippled the Persian empire once and for all.  When the Persian king Darius was slain, the Persian empire collapsed and a Greek empire was forged.

Asia

Dragons
Dragons
When the Persian empire was long gone and the Greeks were the major world power, the Spartan felt as if the "civilized" world could get along fine without him.  Therefore, when Alexander ordered the march back into the West, the Spartan decided to stay in Asia.  The Macedonians had conquered much of Asia; but there was still parts of it which no man of the West had ever stepped foot into.  There were untold lands, cultures, and creatures that had yet to be discovered.

Warriors of the East
Warriors of the East
The Spartan's travels took him farther East.  Eventually, he came into a land that would be modern-day Korea.  It was a land filled with dragons and fierce warriors.  When Demetrius first entered their lands, he instantly felt as if he were a conqueror of sorts.  Upon seeing their fierce warriors, his heart became filled with his insatiable hunger for battle.

However, the Spartan was no conqueror.  He was not a god to be worshiped.  During the Macedonian campaigns, the Greeks thought that they were superior to the Asian forces which they fought.  However, this was not Persia.  These people were different.  In actuality, Demetrius saw many ways in which he could learn from these people.  In the end, the way of a true Spartan was to be on a constant quest toward perfection.  That meant that there was always room for learning.

More Training
More Training
At this time, Demetrius dedicated himself to learning the martial arts of Asia.  Already, he had mastered various styles of wrestling, swordsmanship, and military tactics.  However, when he began studying the combat styles of the East, he found many differences.  As he trained alongside the people themselves, Demetrius discovered that they were a people who valued respect, discipline, and courtesy.

Training for many years, the Spartan was able to master several Korean martial arts, specifically those which pertained to the training of the Hwarang - an elite group of warriors who were in charge of protecting the king.  Perhaps more importantly, Demetrius was able to learn about meditation.  Through meditation, he was able to control his adrenaline and therefore channel it.  Because his abilities worked off of pure adrenaline, he would be able to call upon them much quicker and control the rate at which they were exercised.

Over one hundred years later, the Spartan left Asia and began to travel West.  He had been gone for so long, there was no telling how much his home had changed since his absence.  Demetrius wondered if Greece still retained its firm grasp upon the world.  However, when he finally did return to Europe, he was met by an even greater power..... ROME.

Rome

A Changed World

The Roman War Machine
The Roman War Machine
When Demetrius returned to the West, he found that everything had changed.  Greece was no longer the dominant power of the world.  Instead, a new power had risen in its place:  Rome.  The Roman Empire quickly expanded and had become the dominant force on earth.  Little could be done to oppose them.  Athens, Ithaca, Corinth, and even the mighty Sparta were now under Roman rule.  Like an unstoppable juggernaut, the Roman War Machine made its way throughout the known world.

The Spartan met this force wholeheartedly in brutal combat.  Utilizing his training from the East, he was able to summon his adrenaline-enhanced abilities much quicker than before.  This civilization had come to his home, had ransacked it, and had taken his people as slaves.  The Spartan would not settle for anything less than blood.

The Spartan vs. Rome

Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar
When the Romans were met by the fierce Greek, there were mixed reactions.  Some thought he was Hercules reincarnate, who had come back to take vengeance upon his peoples' conquerors.  Others thought that he was sent to actually aid and assist the Romans in their conquest.  One such person was Julius Caesar.

Upon seeing the magnificent power and abilities which the Spartan possessed, he began to imagine the possibilities for Rome.  However, certain individuals of the Roman Senate thought it best to subdue the Greek and neutralize the threat.  Therefore, Caesar chose to not act on his plans.

Finally, the Spartan made his way towards Rome, battling though many legions on his way there.  When he reached Rome, Demetrius smashed through the gates and began his rampage throughout the city.  Eventually, he made his way to the great Colosseum.

Engaging the Romans
Engaging the Romans
It was there that he made his stand against the garrison of Rome.  At last, the Romans did not want to sacrifice any more troops against the Spartan.  Therefore, they called up their archers to rain arrows down upon him until he was dead.

However, before the archers could even attempt to hurt the Spartan, Julius Caesar arrived at the Colosseum with some members of the Senate.  Taking a stand, he commanded the archers to stand down.  Caesar did not want to risk the life of the magnificent warrior before him.  He saw so much potential there.  Therefore, he proposed a compromise.

The Spartan wanted to fight, and the Romans liked to have their appetite for violence indulged quite often.  Therefore, Caesar proposed that the Spartan be kept alive in order to fight in the arena as a gladiator.  With a strong desire to fight, Demetrius agreed to the compromise, as did the rest of the Senate.

The Compromise

Battling in the Arena
Battling in the Arena
Wanting to make sure that his investment would pay off, Caesar made sure that the Spartan was most comfortable.  Instead of being kept in barracks or in slave quarters (none of which would be able to contain him anyway), Demetrius was given his own private villa by Caesar.  Instead of trying to control the Spartan, Caesar sought to make the Spartan into a strong ally.

Wrestling Cerberus
Wrestling Cerberus
In a matter of no time, the Spartan made a name for himself in the arena of the Colosseum.  Mere gladiators were no match for him.  Therefore, the Romans brought in creatures of legend.  Such creatures included minotaurs, Cerberus, large trolls, and other horrific beasts.

A Champion
A Champion
It was in the arena where the Spartan was allowed to embrace his true talent - killing.  The people began to call him a hero, chanting "Spartan... Spartan..." repeatedly.  In truth, he was loved by all of Rome.  However, he was simply a means of entertainment.  He would go into the arena, fight to the death, and then be cheered by the crowds.  From there, he would go back to his villa for a life of luxury, free to indulge in whatever he wanted.  Alas, what else was there for him to do?

Old Bio

The Spartan is one of the oldest living mutants alive, with a healing factor that has kept him in a seemingly ageless state for over thousands of years. Born in Sparta around 500 B.C., the Spartan’s true identity is Demetrius Arkelis.

Early in his life he was brought up in strict Spartan manner – the way of a soldier. It has become a defining point in his life. Demetrius proved to be an excellent warrior, quickly accelerating into the rank of commander by his 20th birthday. His mutant ability to rapidly heal himself gave him extreme stamina and durability. All was going well; he and his wife had a son whom he named Arkei (translated “the beginning”). However, everything he loved dearly would soon be put on the line; and his superior durability and strength would be put to the ultimate test… Persia was coming.

In 480 B.C. King Xerxes and the Persian Empire descended upon Greece with nearly one million troops from all of Asia. The Spartan king, Leonidas, was only permitted by the Spartan council to take 300 of his finest troops. Demetrius was among the men chosen due to the fact that he already had an heir, and he was the greatest warrior in all of Sparta.

The Greeks made their stand at Thermopylae. Day after day, thousands of Persians would assault the Greeks. Each time, the phalanxes held firm. In times of scattered melee, Demetrius would slay nearly one hundred enemy troops within minutes. Due to his healing factor, wounds never impeded Demetrius much. The adrenaline flowing through his body increased his strength enormously.

At one point in a skirmish with cavalry, Demetrius skewered a horse, picked it up off the ground and launched the dead animal with its rider over the side of the cliff and into the sea. Without even taking a second of rest, the Spartan then threw his spear over 200 yards in a perfectly executed strike, taking down the lead rider in the second wave of cavalry coming into the pass.

However, the Spartans were betrayed and the Persians were led around Thermopylae, surrounding all the Greek forces. By this time, all the remaining Greeks had fled. Less than 200 Spartans remained, Demetrius with them. In a cowardly move, the Persians filled the sky with thousands of arrows that rained down upon the Spartans wave-after-wave. Finally, his body riddled with arrows, Demetrius fell to the ground, his healing slowed nearly to a halt, and then he slipped into the darkness. His heart beat fell to a critically low point… but kept beating.

Hours later, he opened his eyes, gasping for air with blood being coughed up out of his lungs. The Spartan was still alive. Agonizingly, he pulled the arrows out of his body, his body healing as each arrow came out. He stumbled to his feet and marched home to warn his fellow Greeks of the danger coming. When the Greeks finally defeated the Persians, he was there. He personally killed Xerxes’ Lieutenant.

Time went on, people became older. Their bodies aged, but the Spartan still kept his form, like a man in his prime. As time progressed, eras came and went, his wife and son died from an outbreak of The Plague, and once more he was alone. From that point on, Demetrius called himself the Spartan. For hundreds of years, the Spartan found new armies to join and new enemies to fight. Wherever wars were fought, he was there.

He fought alongside Julius Caesar in later years, conquering much of Europe. For a time, he even became a gladiator and fought in the Colosseum on many occasions, winning his freedom several times. However, he later joined the Roman Army in Britain around A.D. 300, near the end of the Roman Empire. There he encountered Artorius Castus, later known as the legendary King Arthur. The Spartan fought alongside him many times.

Later, the Spartan was found in the Holy Land near the early A.D. 1000’s with King Richard the Lionheart. He joined William Wallace in the early 1300’s during the Scottish fight for Independence from England. Up to this present day, the Spartan has been in most of the large wars through most of history such as the English Civil War, the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War (for America), withdrawing into Europe until he fought for Great Britain in the Crimean War, and many more, learning the strategy and technology used for each war.

In 1910, the Spartan was captured in Germany and put to sleep in a special preservation chamber which kept him alive for nearly 50 years. Thought immortal, the Germans studied his cell structure in hopes of cloning him. Near the beginning of World War II, the Germans tried to release clones of the Spartan as super soldiers. However, the tests failed when the experiments became enraged primitive creatures that nearly killed the scientists. They were stopped with deadly force. Hitler tried to blame the catastrophe on “Jewish Terrorists” to further his obscene propaganda.

In 1945, the Spartan was found in Germany by U.S. troops who were invading Berlin. Keeping his body preserved in the specially-designed chamber, the Spartan was transported to the United States. In 1960, the government chose to revive the lone soldier. Having 50 years of his life taken away left the Spartan disoriented initially. However, he began to catch on quickly to the way of life and was trained as a special agent for the U.S. Government. In 1975, the Spartan was taken to Canada to receive a special transplant that would coat his bones with two nearly indestructible metals known as adamantium and vibranium. Doing this turned the Spartan into the ultimate killing machine. An adamantium/vibranium skeleton, a highly-sophisticated healing factor, adrenaline-enhanced strength/speed, impeccable senses, and over 2000 years of battle experience made the Spartan the ultimate soldier.

When the Spartan’s adrenaline increases, so does his strength. Studies show that his strength could increase up to an exponential level, making it incalculable to its limit. Although he has begun to age some, the Spartan keeps the outward appearance of a man in his mid-to-late 30’s. His physique is truly remarkable and his health is flawless. He is immune to all harmful toxins and poisons.

His healing factor is one of the most sophisticated that scientists have ever discovered – torn flesh (which is increasingly tough with adrenaline) heals within seconds, broken bones (made of adamantium and vibranium, unbreakable) heal within an hour, and his outward age is nearly indeterminable. He has the ability to transfer this healing through intense concentration. For example, if a comrade falls, the Spartan can lay his hands upon him and heal him within seconds.

Although he maintains excellent control of his power and adrenaline, in exponentially increased amounts it turns into rage. While he has never lost control of his strength, power, or aggression, there is always the possibility that he could.

This is a vulnerable point. Also, although he is mentally above genius level, he is still open to telepathic attacks. Specially made helmets are capable of shielding his mind from any telepathic attack.

His most favored weapon is a sword made of adamantium which, in his hands, is one of the most deadly weapons on earth. He also occasionally uses an adamantium and vibranium shield slightly similar to Captain America’s as well. However, the Spartan has become quite familiar with firearms he has engineered many of his own and altogether he has over 150 different guns which he prefers to use on various occasions. For several of his guns, the Spartan has used vibranium to form his own custom ammunition. The exception is for shotgun models. Because vibranium is relatively scarce, he prefers to use adamantium added into the buckshot.

Although he has an arsenal of weaponry to rival the Punisher, the Spartan’s greatest weapon is himself. Trained in hundreds of styles to the most advanced level, the Spartan’s personal combat is nearly second to none. Knowing so many styles does not seem to encumber the Spartan. He simply pulls the most effective concepts from each form and kills all in his path.

In certain battle situations, the Spartan dawns a suit of red and gold armor which is strong enough to take a hit from heavy artillery, yet very light and enabling freedom of motion. He also has a slightly weaker black suit of armor which is used mostly for covert/stealth operations. Nobody except the Spartan knows how the armor is constructed. A group of scientists believed that he was able to have adamantium and vibranium made into a wire and therefore present a cross-stitch pattern similar to kevlar.

Now, he is a neutral party. Some argue that he is good, but others will say that he has a stroke of darkness within his soul after seeing so much bloodshed and violence in his lifetime. He is currently a mercenary, fighting for whoever will pay him the most. However, if there is a person in need, he not hesitate to execute justice on their behalf.

When it comes to executing justice, the Spartan is truly ruthless. He rarely takes any prisoners on his quest to justice. Instead, the usual result is always the same - a body count. He takes the person's life, then he takes their heart and soul along with it. Some call this ruthless determination the "Curse of the Lone Warrior." Others say that his heart has just grown cold. But his heart is still there...

As can be imagined, Demetrius has had quite a large number of lovers along the way. However, he has outlived them. In this aspect, his ability to stay in a seemingly "immortal" state has instead become a curse. When all that he loves just passes away before his very eyes, he remains there. Upon this realization, the Spartan has been able to transfer his abilities temporarily to his love. However, he can only do it a certain amount of times before his love could not take his power anymore - and died.

One such case was that of a warrior named Boutica. Boutica was a beautiful woman who belonged to a barbarian tribe of Britannia around A.D. 350. The Celtic woman was able to capture the heart of Demetrius while he was there. Eventually, the two wed together. By transferring his abilities, Demetrius was able to prolong her life by almost a thousand years. But eventually, she could not accept his abilities anymore and quietly died in her sleep one night.

In current times, the Spartan is coming to the realization that he is bordering the immortal. As a result, he has very little fear for his own life. Instead, he is more concerned about the members that he works with. As of now, he is on a quest to find a group of individuals who are worth fighting for, even more importantly - worth dying for. A long time ago, he fought with 300 of the greatest comrades he had ever known. It has been over 2000 years, and he is still searching for a group such as they. The time will come.

The crowd was cheering as the Spartan battled his way through the Colosseum. However, this was not mere gladiatorial match. This was a tournament where only the BEST survived. During the fight, the Spartan first tried to aid his comrades from The Enders. However, eventually greater forces rose up against him, such as the Eternal Chaos known as Kain.

The great vampiric figure and the Spartan collided in a mighty battle of heroic proportions. The Spartan fought valiantly against the vampire, adapting to his attacks and launching his own counter-attacks. Alas, Kain devised a great wall around him composed of dark magic. Finally, meteors thundered to the ground all around the Spartan.

Demetrius had been struck several times by spheres of dark magic. Now, they had weakened him. His abilities were nearly exhausted. For once, the Spartan's abilities became nearly useless. In the darkness of the hour, a battle-scarred warrior looked up and beheld his demise. A meteor was coming straight at him. In one last defiant effort, he rose his shield for the impact. However, his strength was fading. Demetrius was weakened now. Therefore, the meteor plunged deep into the earth and beneath it lied a pool of blood - The Spartan's blood. Alas, all hope seemed faded.

In a final burst of strength, the Spartan thrust the giant meteor away from his body. Standing firm, he gathered his sword and shield, then stood in the arena. His wounds were not healing anymore. Demetrius was slowly slipping into the darkness. In a last effort to defy death, The Spartan rose and walked out of the arena, with the crowd cheering him on as he left.

However, once outside the arena, Demetrius collapsed upon the ground. The mighty warrior was dead.

The Spartan had slipped into darkness. Suddenly, a bright light appeared from the darkness. A voice came and said, "Your task is not yet completed........" In that instant, the Spartan's body changed radically.

The adamantium and vibranium that were once bonded to his skeleton were ripped from it. In an unknown paradox, The Spartan twisted his body, writhing in pain. Suddenly, a bolt of pure energy came out of the abyss and struck his body full-force. Caught in a hold of pure unbound energy, The Spartan was transformed. The powers of Light and Darkness were poured into his soul and he was endowed with supernatural abilities. Light and Darkness were brought under his control, along with all other types of abilities. Thus, the power of absorption was endowed upon him.

His physiology was was dramatically transformed as well. While he still had superhuman strength, now it was increased exponentially. His healing ability remained the same. Now something began to coat his bones. It was much stronger than adamantium. It was no metallic source - but it was of unknown origin, truly a work of heavenly nature.

Finally, The Spartan's mind came under control. Indeed, his mind was a powerful asset. The heavenly forces then put in telepathic blocks to shield The Spartan from a telepathic attack. Also, with this came the ability to telepathically attack any individual who attempted to cause the warrior any telepathic harm - Whenever an individual attempts to use telepathy, The Spartan is able to use that telepathic bridge to send a counter attack.

Armed with the powers of the heavens, a bolt of pure energy struck the earth and made an enormous crater. At the bottom of the crater, a hand shot up. The Spartan rose up, gasping for air. He could feel his new abilities begin to take affect. It was his time.

These new abilities were incredible to say the least. However, The Spartan did not like the idea of being directed where to go. Indeed, he had a true sense of justice; he just wanted to exact it in his own way. Therefore, he turned his back on his Divine calling.

As retribution, the Divine immortality was taken away from him. Along with it, the power of absorption was taken away as well. By grace and mercy, the unbreakable skeleton which was placed in his body would remain - as a shield against any Dark foe that would attack.

His original abilities were then restored to an extremely powerful level. Once again, raw adrenaline would fuel The Spartan's power. As for his destiny, he is now on the hunt to bring down all those who wish to cause harm or dishonor to others. Viewing himself as a protector of sorts, The Spartan will stop at nothing to complete his ruthless mission.....

No PRISONERS.......No MERCY......Only JUSTICE.......
