Retro Review: Aliens and Lee Elias Art!

The cover really captures the imagination.  This guy who became four parts alien is suddenly split into four equal creatures and three of them all attacking him!

I used to love this kind of comic book as a kid -- the bright cover, the fantastic premise and silly story were clear draws for me -- along with a large glass of Hi-C punch and 12 cents plunked down for a bit of cheap entertainment.

    Ultra is our Multi-Alien.

This is the May 1966 issue.  Captain Ace Arn at first is despondent, dreams of his wife Bonnie, a cute blonde.  However he has find a machine that might reverse the Ultra effect and make him human again.  Then he could have his way with Bonnie.  You know that whole hawk leg thing might freak her out!

Well, it's just not meant to be.  A throw of the switch and instead of being human again, he splits into four complete creatures:  flight, magnetism, electricity and brawn!  The Captain is the only one who still retains his faculties.  The other three are running wild on Earth.

The story then gets a bit complex as the Captain gathers them together and attempts a reversal.  Except his mind keeps transferring from one to the other!  You knew this wasn't going to be easy, right??

The next story is The Weirdies of Mist Valley!

A newsreporter in the future actually sees the girl of his dreams and starts stalking her -- no, really!  He thinks she's captured but is really being put into a state of suspended animation.  After some fighting, he is forced to also have the same thing  happen to himself. The rest of the story has both transferred to the other bodies as they make their way on a strange, hostile planet.  Crazy story, but a happy ending.

Fun art on this one, with the crazy creatures and the weird colors and powers.  Not sure who the artist is on this one, though -- possibly

    Murphy Anderson.

Comics in those days often did not have credits.
