After encountering the Kree hero Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers was accidentally subjected to otherworldly radiation that transformed her into a superhuman warrior. Calling herself Ms. Marvel, she established herself as one of the most powerful and prominent heroes and respected member of the Avengers. She has now adopted the mantle of Captain Marvel for herself.
All the people complaining that Ms. Marvel got a movie before Wonder Woman should think this through logically. If they make a movie with a woman super hero and it does well then movie producers will be more willing to make other movies with female super heroes, so Warner will go looking for ideas and someone will say,"Hey we have one of the most well known female heroes in the world sitting on a shelf here." So basically people who want a Wonder Woman movie should hope this is a huge success because it will make it far easier to get the studio (ie the folks who pay for movies to get made) to green light it.
well, I didn't really definitively complain. I just thought it was sad she would get one before Wonder Woman. When you remember the modern super hero movie movement, the first real success was Superman in 1979...then there was a couple of Marvel movies that tanked, then Batman 89 kept the flow going, it would be nice if Diana was given the milestone
Given Carol's past as an Air Force pilot, I could see them having Rhodey in a cameo role. Would be fun if they did a semi-callback to the scene in Iron Man, where he bumps into the two fighters and one of the pilots is shocked when he discovers that the object they're following is in fact a guy in a suit. Essentially, in that movie we had two fighter jets bump into a guy wearing an high-tech armor suit. Here, we'd take it to the next level and have a guy (War Machine) in such a suit, bump into a woman, who's flying under her own power.
Oh, excellent! Super hero movies have been needing more major heroines. Cannot wait!
@X35: They may avoid calling her "Captain Marvel" in the movie, at the very least in the title, in order to avoid conflict with DC. One could argue that they'd use the same name as her upcoming solo series, but I think DC would be more up in arms about taking a name for a movie title than just a comic book series.
OMG...i cant believe it....hopefully this is true and NOT a rumour....i definantly go with strahovski...she was awesome as sarah walker in chuck but not sure they would cast her as she is such a popular choice with the fans and they tend to go against that i feel..i maybe wrong and see she is an awesome actress and perfect for the part....(so far the cast for avengers has been spot on...fingers crossed : ))....HALE MS MARVEL
Ha! Always loved that line! Shows that Pete's comic book guy to even KNOW who Captain Marvel is, or should I say Shazam? Anyway, I think it's about time! Marvel movie universe needs some more heavy hitters.
hey i have been looking at various actresses and this is my personal preference of who i think should be cast as Ms Marvel....what do you guys n girls think?..after watching G.I.Joe i though Rachel Nichols looked good for the part,she had the similar hair style (although it being red)...height and curves...and then i saw an actress from the film battleship..Brooklyn Decker she has the height and curves again..her hair is blonde also and i could see her play the part (not sure what her acting is like though?!!!!)..still think Malin Akerman..or Yvonne Strahovski or Ali Larter...could do a good job but there ya go ...what do you think??
katee sackhoff doesnt look the part in my opinion ..where as rachel nichols has more the look ..but who knows!!!...and the end of the day,whoever they cast, they are not going to please everybody!!!!!!!
Interesting, although how many times have you heard there is a script in place and the movie falls through? Although this might have more legs for the implications of Avengers 2, and considering it seems Marvel is setting itself up for that this could be really legit. I am not sure who I would want to play Carol.

Decided to look into this a little more and I found this from comicbookmovie.com...
Update: Our own Josh Wilding attended this panel and assures me that Quesada said no such thing during the panel. The reporter supposedly spoke with Quesada off panel and despite a corroborating report from AICN, the specific statements regarding a script and Ms. Marvel have yet to be confirmed by other sources. Don't be surprised if Quesada makes a statement denying this.
Now who's to say since we haven't heard a denial or confirmation from Marvel about this, my fingers are still crossed.

There were recently talks about multiple scripts for Marvel movies being out there (though it's my understanding that they're basic scripts), and Carol Danvers was included, so I imagine it could still happen. If it does happen, though, it'll be a few years before we see it. :(
Personally, I've never cared for Yvonne Strackovsky (probably misspelling that, XD) as Carol--she can maybe pull off the snark, but she has a Black Widow, flexible gymnast build, not a Carol Danvers, strong and muscular build, and that really kills her for me. I prefer Katee Sackhoff; her Starbuck is incredibly similar to Carol Danvers, and she played the part spectacularly and has the right build, too. Here are a couple of posts I've seen on Tumblr comparing Katee to Carol.
Though it does seem there's a split between drawing Carol as thin and drawing her as muscular. I guess Yvonne is fine for those who prefer her thin... but that just doesn't seem like the definitive version of her character to me.
