    Desire to be normal 1

First off I thought this was a good introductory issue for a new character. I like how they did not rush to have an elaborate action scene right at the beginning and just tried to establish Kamala's basic character and background. Her family seems to be fairly average facing both old and new world pressures and how they affect the family dynamic just Kamala seems to be torn between her family and her desire to be a normal American teen.As this is a new title with mostly new characters and most o...

An Excellent Example For Diversity In Comics And More Besides 0

The review was originally posted on my blog.First new comics day of a new month, and since this is February 5th, 2014 that means that today is the day that sees the launch of Ms. Marvel #1. Long the identity of Carol Danvers after she got some powers from the first Captain Marvel aka Captain Mar-Vell (sp?), it was discontinued in the launch of Marvel Now since Carol was asked by Captain America to take up the mantle of the fallen Mar-Vell. Under Kelly Sue DeConnick and a rotating team of artists...

    Diversity at its finest? 6

I must admit. I wanted to punch Zoe in the face after the first three pages. A look into the life of a teenage, Muslim, Turkish girl proves to be incredibly relatable as she bemoans her own heritage and simply wants to fit in, something your average high schooler desires - or at least would rather not embarrassingly stand out. We get to see the full family dynamic set the tone for the rest of the issue as Kamala struggles to fit in with her peers and her own family. It almost feels like watching...

The New Ms. Marvel [SPOILERS IN REVIEW] 2

Meet Kamala Khan, an average sixteen-year-old girl from Jersey City that just so happens to become a superhero.Ms. Marvel Issue 1 is a great example of how to introduce a new character. The comic starts out in a deli, where she is enjoying the smells of meet that she is forbidden to eat by her faith, and she hears about a party being thrown at the waterfront later that evening. We learn that Kamala is a Muslim and the daughter of Pakistani immigrants. When she is told that she cannot go to the ...

THERE IS A NEW MISS IN TOWN! (Ms. Marvel #1) 1

(Quick Unprofessional Review)This was fantastic first issue! I was never a big fan of Ms. Marvel/ Captain Marvel before. I tried read Kelly Sue's Captain Marvel, but it just didn't grab. I decided to give this new character a try, and it caught my liking instantly. I can relate to a lot of things that Kamala goes through because I'm from Bangladesh (Close to middle-east/ Pakistan). The tradition and culture she lives by is a lot similar to mine. I usually don't like a book that surrounds itself...

    Genuinely enjoyable 2

About a week ago I read theAll-New Marvel Now Point One Issue #1 (that name is way too long) and really liked the bit that included the new Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), and after hearing a positively glowing endorsement from a friend I decided to give this title a shot, and I am very glad that I did. The writing and art worked together seamlessly to produce a somewhat unusual yet captivating feel that's utterly enjoyable and will, hopefully, continue throughout the rest of this series. While I've n...

    Ms. Marvel 001 (2014) Review 0

full review at http://thexdatabase.blogspot.com/2014/04/ms-marvel-001-2014-review.htmlThis comic is awesome and weird at the same time. The 1st part with Kamla and her family is well done they seem so real and so average. Her situation isn't totally relatable (being of different cultures) but I do like her and do feel for her situation. And plus she offers a great window of understanding to a culture that I don't really get. The second part of the comic when she gets her powers is kinda weird and...

    Something to Marvel At 0

Ms. Marvel is one of those series that has received unprecedented attention, what with it being the first Muslim superhero to ever really exist. Not only that, but she's a teenage girl as well, touching on a few neglected demographics that clearly were looking for just this. And, while it's not fantastic or perfect, it is a well written and drawn work, and the message that it sends is more than enough reason to invest in the series.Khamala is our leading lady who faces many of the difficulties ...
