Apparently, Morbius is dead, a victim of his self-imposed prohibition against drinking blood. In his apartment, his friends and confidantes, Dr. Jacob Weisenthal and Jack Russell (the Werewolf) determine it would be best to sneak Morbius' body quietly into the morgue at St. Jude's Hospital. As they do so, a nosy tabloid photographer who has been snooping around for dirt, sees Morbius' body and snaps a shot.

Jack goes to Cypress Hills Cemetery to see Caretaker and make arrangements for a quick, quiet funeral. He then goes to the bar where Dan Ketch works, to inform him of Morbius' demise. Later, he finds Martine Bancroft, Morbius' undead former lover, and delivers the news.

The next night, with Jericho Drumm officiating, Morbius is buried. Within the casket, the Darkhold Dwarf materializes and speaks of the deal Morbius made with Chthon to resurrect Martine. Morbius' end of the deal unfulfilled, he revives the Living Vampire, then vanishes. Morbius realizes his situation, and after initially panicking, lies there to hear the eulogies of his friends and allies. When he hears Lena's voice, he gathers every iota of his strength and bursts free from his grave. He tells Jacob he feels different; he feels alive.

The next morning, with the public having learned of the death of the Living Vampire, a crowd has gathered at the cemetery, including allies, foes and citizens there to celebrate his demise. Spider-Man pays his respects and leaves as flowers from Modred and Wildpride materialize by his headstone.
