I've been away from comics for a long time and missed a lot of the talent development since, jeez, the 90s. Until I picked up Moon Knight #1 last week I'd never heard of Alex Maleev, but I'm a huge fan now. Wow.

Maleev has a rough style that normally doesn't resonate with me, but unlike a lot of other rough styles, the lines are really tight and clean. I dunno how better to describe it, but Moon Knight is blessed with a style that is perfect for expressing the dark and gritty nature of the book, but without having to rely on a lot of shadows and shading. Especially striking is Moon Knight's costume in fight scenes. Marc's face remains completely shrouded during battle, but his suit just shines and the cape creates great contrast in the panel.

Another favorite moment is when Marc gets punched in the face. It spans four panels and colors the shroud of his hood red.

Bendis made a very smart choice in deciding to manifest Marc's multiple personality disorder in other superheroes. It allows him to write four characters in one, viewed through Marc's slightly insane perspective. His writing hits funny notes and serious notes and I love how Marc's internal dialogue reflects his actions and fighting style. Getting a peek into his thoughts as he fights is also lots of fun.

I'm not sure where Moon Knight is going and this issue did little to further the Kingpin plot, but there are worse things than teaming Moon Knight up with Echo and the cliffhanger does seem genuinely interesting for two non-superhumans to have to deal with.

Review for Moon Knight #4.  The Story: Echo and Mark eat some hotdogs but get attacked by Night Shift.   The Good: Im finally starting to find the comedy Bendis writes very funny. All character interaction has some sort of comedy in this, from Echo talking to Carol Danvers and her not remembering her for being an Avenger for 12 seconds, to the Spidey, Cap and Logan talking about how Echo wont come. Well this issue in short doesn't do much to advance the plot of the new Moon Knight series.  To be honest I'm not a Bendis fan so I'll do my best to judge the comic and not him.  The story line doesn't seem to be real defined in any of the preceding issues or in this issue in general, so its definitely not a comic for someone looking to get into the character or for someone returning to the character.    The Good: Maleev's art fits the tone well with its dark and gritty nature.  Originally I was...
