    Star Trek Canon Special Note

Not everything listed in the origin is Canon. That is because only television shows and movies are considered canon. This being a comic website there are many things here that are not canon. So unless it is contradicted on film it should be listed as part of the character biography.

Montgomery Scott was born in Scotland in 2222, and in 2241 he joined Starfleet. In 2265 he became Chief Engineer and Second officer on board the USS Enterprise. As such he served with distinction until the ship was eventually destroyed decades later.

In 2267, Scotty suffered from amnesia from a explosion on the U.S.S. Enterprise, he left the Enterprise for a short time and went to the Planet Argelius II. While on Argelius he was accused of murdering a fellow officer named Karen Tracey and two Argelians. They discovered the real murderer was a lifeform named Redjac, who had possessed Mr. Hengist, who was the Chief Administrator of the Capital City of Argelius. Afterwards Scotty returned to the Enterprise.

In 2286, the Enterprise traveled to the year 1986 to retrieve humpback whales, and Scotty was assigned to the task of constructing a water tank. After the commissioning of Enterprise-A Scotty was reassigned as Chief Engineer. In 2293, Scotty prevented Colonel West from assassinating the federation president on the planet Khitomer.

Montgomery Scott retired in 2293. When traveling to Norphin Colony (where he was going to spend his retirement) on the USS Jenolan, the ship crashed on a Dyson Sphere. Scotty and Matt Franklin were the only two survivors and spent a total of 75 years in the ships transporter buffer until being discovered by Enterprise-D. Matt Franklin died but Scotty survived and helped Enterprise-D to escape the Dyson Sphere. Captain Picard rewarded Scotty with the Enterprises Shuttlecraft Goddard.

Montgomery later found out the formula for transwarp beaming. This formula was given to a younger Montgomery by Spock when he went back into time. It is unknown if this changed the timeline or if it created an alternate timeline.

The character of Scotty was created by Gene Roddenberry but the actor James Doohan had a large role in making him a Scottish character. Gene knew he needed someone to be in the role as Chief Engineer but he wanted to have a diverse crew. James being the talented voice actor gave Gene several ascents for Gene to choose from and eventually the Scottish one out shined the others.

James Doohan as Scotty is one of only four out of the main seven characters to have been in the second pilot of Star Trek known as the Cage. As a veteran of War James had lost fingers on his hand and it would be filmed out of sight so it would not be seen as a part of his character. James would eventually pass on after playing the role of Scotty in the first Next Generation film Star Trek: Generations.

In an alternate time line Scotty ends up being a merchant shipper along with Captain James Kirk. The rest on the crew that Scotty normally served with were on the crews of the Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike and on the U.S.S. Excelsior under Captain Number One. This was all due to the disappearance of Pike's Yeoman J. Mia Colt in the past. Eventually Scotty gets to tour the U.S.S Enterprise-A with Pike's engineer Moves-With-Burning-Grace.
