Minnesota is the 32nd state of the Union, admitted in 1858. It is one of the few States where residents of German or Scandinavian ancestry constitute the majority. By the last estimations German Americans were 38,06% of its population, Norwegian 17%, Swedish 9,8%. The state is the 12th largest in the Union and the 21st most populous. The capital is Saint Paul, the largest city is Minneapolis.
Minnesota borders the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba, as well as the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Michican and Wisconsin.
