thefilmkiller's Millar & McNiven's Nemesis #1 - Part One review

Hurm....I'm Not Sure About This One...

First off let me say, when it comes to Mark Millar you either like his stuff or hate it. Well Nemesis isn't any different, you either like it or hate it and I got to say despite all it's flaws I liked it.

Lets start with all the good stuff.... Well the art is amazing, I didn't expect any less from someone as great as McNiven. It seems like Mark Millar has a nack for hiring the best of the best when it comes to artist. Steve McNiven's artwork is great as always and every panel is amazing to look at. Sure the layout of each panel could have used a little spice but it wasn't bad.

The blood and gore certainly kicks kick-ass' ass. Holy $h!t, I actually cringed after a certain scene we've all practically seen involving a train and one unlucky cop.

The premise is good and it's interesting seeing a world where there is this super terrorist ( I'm saying that because he may think he is a super villain but he comes off more as a Super Terrorist then a Super Villain ) and no super heroes around to take him down, it's interesting because something like this could actually happen. All it takes is one dude who is a little off his rocker but still a very intelligent man and you have a situation like this. Now I'm not saying that some of the stuff Nemesis does could actually happen I'm just saying that the premise could happen.

Now the bad.....Well just a little too much happens in one issue and it seems a little crowded. The ending ( While a great ending ) seemed like something you'd have in issue 2 and not the first issue. You have no motive yet for who Nemesis is and why he does what he does. He does mention a few things that make you think about his origin but nothing for certain. Now normally I'd be fine with a villain who has no backstory, look at the Joker...almost nothing about his past is known for certain but he's still a great character. However nothing about the hero is known either.....No personality revealed yet, just that he's the best cop around and that he's a bit of a sly son of a b!tch, other then that there is nothing.

Overall I liked it for what it was, It needs more character development and take a few steps back and slow down but we're only on the first issue and I'm willing to bet money that the next issue will be a lot better.

    4 out of 5 stars.

Review:    All I can say to express my feelings for this comic is...F**King AMAZING!!! Millar and McNiven really out done themselves this time. I can say why Millar wanted to make a charcter that would be like Batman but taking The Joker route. You could say Nemesis is the Anti-Batman but more crazier and has no consideration for others. That being said, I'm glad this is a completely different character. Nemesis is an intelligent super criminal who goes after inspector's/ the bestest cops in the...

Riding high on his success from Kick-Ass Mark Millar tells to tell the story of the baddest of the bad. Nemesis is an original character that some, even Millar himself, have called a combination of Batman and the Joker. This issue doesn't really spill the beans on what Nemesis actually is but we get to see him do this thing and it's done well in the over the top Millar style. What I liked about Kick-Ass is that, like the Watchman, it was about comic books. Dave was guy who loved comics and wante...
