"Makes Kick-Ass Look Like $#!T"
Riding high on his success from Kick-Ass Mark Millar tells to tell the story of the baddest of the bad. Nemesis is an original character that some, even Millar himself, have called a combination of Batman and the Joker. This issue doesn't really spill the beans on what Nemesis actually is but we get to see him do this thing and it's done well in the over the top Millar style.
What I liked about Kick-Ass is that, like the Watchman, it was about comic books. Dave was guy who loved comics and wanted to be his like his hero. Through-out the series we see that Dave is sort of pathetic in some ways but he over comes this to be what he wants.
So far Nemesis lacks that drama. It's always easy to rip first issue a new one but we don't get to see some of the deep drama of Kick-Ass. What we do see is cool enough. We meet Nemesis and get to see him do this thang. We also see Nemesis' nemesis (yeah, I waited a while for that one).
The art is really good even if the panel layout was a little bland. The dialog is top notch as I have come to expect from Millar.
Does Nemesis make Kick-Ass look like $#!T? Not right away. I'm willing to keep reading and even if it doesn't eclipse Kick-Ass it's still a damn good comic.
