    Background

Miasma was created by Keith Giffen and Howard Porter for the Magog series. Both creators used the character again in Justice League 3001.

    History

    Magog

Mark Sunderland was a wealthy man, who suffered a reversal of fortunes and ended up homeless and deformed. He developed a method of controlling people to follow his orders and began calling himself Miasma.

He later encountered Magog and after fighting him was briefly able to control his mind. However he was captured by members of Flashpoint. Later he and Magog escape the facility together, but they end up in a realm known as Albion, due to a woman named Alba who claimed to be Magog's mother. Magog eventually asked to leave this place but Miasma was left here as a prisoner.

    Justice League 3001

Miasma has reappered as the man in charge of Area 13, a section of Takron-Galtos where the worst and most powerful beings of the planet are keep in suspended animation (mostly, analogs to Marvel characters).

The 3001 Miasma visually resembles the pre-Flashpoint Miasma. He claims that his ancestors united the homeles tribes. So is possible than this Miasma is a descendent of the original Miasma. However how much the post-Flashpoint continuity changed the history of the original Miasma is unclear.
