Platinum invites Doctor William Magnus to the dedication ceremony for the Metaldome Sports Stadium. Magnus spurns Platinum's invitation, opting instead to investigate a meteor landing, with the beautiful Doctor Garin. Platinum storms out of Magnus' laboratory, and joins her fellow Metal Men, on the Jetaway. At the Metaldome Sports Stadium, Platinum, Gold, Iron, Tin and Nameless mold themselves into race cars, for a race around the track. Before a winner can be declared, their race is interrupted by an enormous golden robot. Crashing through the Metaldome walls, the robot begins to devour all the metal within it's reach. The Metal Men attack, but their strongest blows barely faze the monstrous machine. The robot is about to devour Platinum, when Iron manages to rescue her.

The Metal Men form an enormous net over the robot, allowing Platinum the chance to flee. The robot, designated Torgola, easily shreds the Metal Men mesh, then locks a tractor beam on Platinum. Tin and Nameless join together into a pair of blinders, to block Torgola's magnetic eye beams. Realizing that Torgola has already consumed more than twice it's own mass, the Metal Men leap down Torgola's throat to discover just where all that metal is going. The Metal Men find themselves transported to Metalas Five, where they find Magnus and Garin waiting for them. Torgola arrived on Earth in the meteor that Magnus went to investigate. His car was the first thing Torgola consumed upon awakening. Magnus leads the Metal Men to a strange structure, where they are immediately attacked by robot guards.

Lead forms a shield to protect the team, blocking and redirecting the guards fire back at them. Once inside the structure, the Metal Men are again attacked by robot sentries. The sentries are quickly destroyed by Lead and Iron. Suddenly, the Metal Men's path is blocked by the massive figure of Torgola, or so it seems. Though identical in appearance to Torgola, this robot is actually designated "Ethos". It has been sent to carry Magnus, Garin, and the Metal Men to it's creator, Horbok. The Metal Men are informed, by Horbok, that Metalas Five is a world terribly deficient in the resources needed to maintain it's technology. Therefore, robots, like Torgolas and Ethos, are sent out into the universe to collect the needed elements. These robots are never meant to visit populated worlds, but Torgolas is malfunctioning.

Horbok was actually once a man, but used a strange device, called a "Metalizer", to transform himself into a machine. Horbok offers to transform Magnus into a robot, as well, but Magnus decline. Horbok provides Magnus with a special weapon to deactivate Torgolas, who Horbok's view screen shows devouring an ocean liner. Suddenly, the governing body of Metalas One teleports into Horbok's chamber. Seeing Torgolas attacking an inhabited world, the governing body prepares to execute Horbok. Magnus blasts the governing body with Horbok's weapon. The team climbs aboard Ethos, who carries them back to Earth. Upon arrival, the Metal Men find Torgolas devouring skyscrapers. Magnus fires Horbok's weapon, only to discover he used it's single charge on the governing body. Iron forms a barrier to keep Torgolas from crushing the Metal Men.

Magnus orders the Metal men to take out Torgolas' sensors. Once again, Tin and Nameless join together to form blinders for Torgolas' eyes. Gold seals Torgolas' ears, while Platinum plugs Torgolas' nose. Torgolas, however, is actually allowing the Metal Men's action against him, to lure them to him. Ethos informs Magnus of Torgolas' intent. Garin rushes back to Ethos, who carries her back to Metalas Five, to procure another weapon. To keep Torgolas from reading their thoughts, Lead molds himself into a protective dome over the Metal Men. There Magnus lays out his plan. Platinum binds Torgolas. Tin and Nameless again blind Torgolas. Gold, again, blocks his hearing. Lead envelopes Torgolas' head to block his telepathy. Unable to sense the Metal Men's attack, Torgolas has no defense against the pounding blows of Iron. As Torgolas falls, Ethos returns to Earth. Magnus is informed that Garin has elected to stay behind on Metalas Five. Using the Metalizer, Garin has become a machine, the better to spend eternity as Horbok's wife.
