    Steve Dayton serves as Mento, the telepathic keeper of the Mento helmet and member of the Doom Patrol, the world's strangest heroes while fighting the insanity and depression the helmet causes.

    Short summary describing this character.

    Doom Patrol #91 (November 1964): Contains the origin and first appearance of Steve Dayton who is better know as Mento.

    Doom Patrol #102 (March 1966): Mento meets his future foster son, Beast Boy, for the first time.

    Doom Patrol #104 (June 1966): Elasti-Girl agrees to marry Mento and gets married in the same issue.

    Doom Patrol #110 (March 1967): Elasti-Girl and Mento adopts the young Beast Boy.

    Doom Patrol #121 (October 1968): The Doom Patrol dies (minus Mento and Beast Boy) at the hands of Madame Rouge and General Zahl. Mento vows to kill the murderers of his wife and the rest of the Doom Patrol.

    New Teen Titans #13-15 (November 1981-January 1982): Robin, Kid Flash, Cyborg, and past Doom Patrol member Robotman rescue Mento from the underground city in Africa of Madame Rouge. Steve is drugged and under control by Madame Rouge leading to him attacking the Teen Titans and Robotman. Thankfully Raven bring Mento back to normal and the Teen Titans along with the two ex-Doom Patrol members defeat Madame Rouge and General Zahl.

    New Teen Titans #24-25 (October-November 1986): A deranged Mento decides it was Beast Boy's fault for the deaths of the Doom Patrol and want him dead. This leads to Mento creating the team, the Hybrid.

    New Teen Titans #34 (August 1987): The Teen Titans goes up against the Hybrid only to be saved by Raven when she break's Mento control and heal him of his insanity.

    New Titans #71 (November 1990): When the Wildebeest are hunting down the Teen Titans; Mento calls upon Deathstroke to find the Titans.

    Deathstroke #0, 41-45 (October 1994- March 1995): Mento in his Crimelord identity plots against Deathstroke.

    Teen Titans #35-37 (June 2006- August 2006): After the Infinite Crisis the original Doom Patrol is back in a team that also consist of Steve Dayton back in his Mento role.

    Doom Patrol #3 (December 2009): Mento assists the Doom Patrol with their black hole problems. Also revealed is that Mento has been using to the helmet to influence Rita's feeling to which she doesn't respond so nicely too.
