Mega Man Gets A New Ongoing

Lots of people know who Mega Man is from the video games. Now Archie Comics reintroduces him to a new generation.

    The Good

Mega Man has been around since 1987 but not everyone might now his full story. Given that he now has a new ongoing title from Archie Comics, the decision was made to start from the beginning. If you're wondering who exactly Mega Man is or members of his supporting cast, you can find out here. This issue is new-reader friendly and not having read Mega Man comics in the past, it feels like a fresh beginning. For those already well-versed in the history of Mega Man, the origin portion is a bit of a flashback in the comic so we won't be starting completely from scratch. The art and colors are perfect for what you would expect in this comic.

    The Bad

Let's be honest, this is geared more towards younger readers and there's nothing wrong with that. My daughter knows nothing about Mega Man except for the fact that I have a Mega Man action figure in my home office. I know she will enjoy this comic. Those that have played the games and know Mega Man's history might be a little disappointed but this issue is the set up one. Once everything is established the full action will begin. That's the other thing, there isn't very much action here. But there should be in issue #2.

    The Verdict

There's something about Mega Man that is just cool. I've played several of the games and have a decent knowledge of his backstory. This issue is new-reader friendly and give a flashback telling his origin. The comic does have a younger reader feel to it but fans of the franchise should enjoy it as well. Since I haven't read past comic adaptations, I'm not sure how much new territory this will go into but it's looking like it will be a fun series and my daughter should get a kick out of it. That's what made this get the rating I gave it. Major hardcore fans of the franchise might be a little disappointed but the action should fully begin in the next issue.
