Let me begin by saying that yes, this is just a rumor.  Odds are we're going to hear hundreds of different things about the upcoming trilogy down the road, but this one caught my eye.  The talented director of X-Men Origins: First Class & Kick-Ass recently decided not to direct the next X-Men film.  Bryan Singer will take charge and it was hinted that Vaughn stepped down because he's going to direct Secret Service... but Collider says that might not be the whole story.

    No Caption Provided
Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub, the Editor-in-chief of the entertainment website, says he's heard the director is chatting with Lucasfilm about possibly directing the 2015 Star Wars film.  After all, the opportunity to direct the next Star Wars would absolutely be a worthy reason to step away from another project.  Personally, I think Vaughn would be a solid option.  He proved to be more than capable with the restricted budget for Kick-Ass and managed to make the X-Men prequel/reboot an incredibly entertaining adventure.

Meanwhile, MarketSaw is claiming that Steven Speilberg, Darren Arnofsky, Joss Whedon, Alfonso Cuaron, and Neil Blomkamp are also being considered.  The website goes on to allege that Luke Skywalker  will be a "primary focus" in the films.

Again, these are simply rumors, but it's a very intriguing one that's worth discussing -- especially since it's connected to an X-Men film.  What do you think, Viners?  Would you want Vaughn to direct the new trilogy or did you have someone else in mind?

I very much doubt that's the reason why he stepped down. But it'd be awesome to see him direct at least one of these new Star Wars films!

It would be very interesting to see the guy who made Stardust, Kick-Ass, and X-Men Origins: First Class, do the Star Wars films. I like that guy because none of his films are alike.

I'll go watch it no matter what the deal is but I really wish they would do something after Luke's life and focus on creating an entirely new cast or Jedi, mercenaries and Sith.

Vaughn would be a solid choice. I'm trying not to get my hopes up to high for the new trilogy. But I'm finding thats been difficult to do :)

    I'd watch it, but I don't think it's true.

I love Vaughn (First Class was amazing), but I feel like Disney would want to get a bigger name for this project

While this is not the worst thing to happen, all of these rumors seems even more useless than usual, the movie is three years out and the deal isn't technically final yet but Vaughn would be interesting here.

I wish I was more into Star Wars so I could feel excited about this. Funnily, I'm the most excited for Star Wars that I've ever been now that they're potentially put in capable hands, but I dunno if I want the hands to be THIS capable. It's weird, I'm conflicted.

No. Honestly, I don't believe he's the director for it. I like his work, but I don't think he can do it. The director from District 9 perhaps?

Steven Spielberg. Only one worthy enough to take on SW after Lucas. 'Nuff said.

I think Vaughn would be a great choice. I would prefer Joss Whedon to direct it, but I think he's going to be a little busy with the Marvel movies and TV show.

Who i'd want in this order

    1.Joss Whedon

    2.Peter Jackson

    3.Matthew Vaughn

    4.Steven Speilberg

Well whedon's unlikely anyway(avengers 2),but that's who i'd want to direct mostly out of these 4.

I think the director needed greatly depends on the script.

If it is going to be a classic SW story like E4-6 then Steven Spielberg or Ron Howard stand out. If they were to go with a more gritty story about bounty hunters and such, I would lean more towards a Zack Snyder.

This is amazing news, I have faith that whoever they choose to direct will be the right choice. I just hope they really hold out for their first choice, I mean it IS Star Wars. And if they want to have Luke's character involved, cool. I think Vaughn would be he best choice, he's young enough and seems to have a lot of motivation and creative ideas.

I don't see Whedon wanting to be involved with yet another comic franchise, at least not directing. Cuaron and Blomkamp haven't really impressed me.
