Superstar writer Geoff Johns and artist Howard Porter launch He-Man and the Masters of the Universe to new heights, with a story that will rock the future of the Most Powerful Man in the Universe by beginning in the past.

Long ago on the Planet Eternia, centuries before Prince Adam would take claim the sword of King Grayskull and become the hero, He-Man. King Graykull had lost the sword and was murdered. The land of Eternia was thrown into darkness, its people fearing for their lives and pray for a hero.

Two of these people are two boys running through the dark forest, trying to outrun a pack of Beastmen, trying and failing to get to the river where they hope the Beastmen won't follow. Things look bleak for the pair but then out of the shadows erupts a figure and with his magical mace, kills one to the Beastmen, giving the boys a way to escape.

Learning the boys have no home the figure takes them back to his den, with one rule don't touch anything. There the boys learn the man is Sir Laser-Lot the King former guard and his on a mission to find King Grayskull's sword. He explains that he has been cursed by the Gem of Talmadge, and anyone who touches it or him will be burned to the soul.

Then something strange happens and the gem starts to speak to him, telling him he is needed elsewhere. Before Sir Laser-Lot can react, he is teleported to the future and finds him at the feet of Skeletor and his Evil Warriors.
