Kishimoto first appeared in 1995 when he submitted work to Shueisha, and four years later in 1999 he started the serial Naruto in Weekly Shonen Jump. Becoming a massive hit, it would go on to be one of the rare elite manga series to sell over 200 million copies. Though Kishimoto has produced some other short works before and during the run of the series, its massive success has had the side-effect of almost entirely representing his career and many of the other ongoing series he is involved in (including after Naruto ended) are in an editorial role due to the various spin-off properties of Naruto.
