Let's hope so... however, the screenwriter, Nicole Perlman, has literally never written ANYTHING before. In fact, apparently she's never even worked on a movie because her IMDB is blank.

I really want this movie to be good, but giving a screenwriter with no experience at all a project like Guardians of the Galaxy is a bit of a red flag.

The promo art looks cool though! Although I don't see Adam Warlock :/

@Boogiepop
what?!?! How can someone totally unproven be scripting the movie? That's ridiculous even for an indie film. I assume she's gonna have help from some of the Marvel staff at least but I can't believe she hasn't written anything before :( and I wanted the Gaurdians of the Galaxy to be fantastic. Hopefully it still will be.

Marvel killed DC comics this year in terms of movie news

@TheWitchingHour: Considering Marvel hasn't done anything wrong so far, I'd say they've earned some slack in those regards. We can armchair quarterback all of their decisions but in the end they've done a great job.

Not saying they haven't. I'm just saying that all of the other Marvel produced films have come from screenwriters with a certain amount of tenure. And considering how much money Marvel is likely to sink into this it's absolutely insane that they would go out on a whim and hire somebody with no produced work. That would be the case for any high budget film from any studio.

Marvel Studios is going to dominate the big screen for the next few years with movies like Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Cap America 2, GotG, Ant-Man, and the Avengers sequel. Hopefully, Marvel Studios can get Daredevil from Fox by this fall and also release a Black Panther movie.

This is what I've managed to fin out about Nicole Perlman. She is a graduate of Disney's screenwriting program, which may explain how she landed such a big movie without any previous ones. She has written screen plays before though, from what I can tell they were all about space and were well received, though none of them ever got to the production stage. I pretty sure she does have a back ground in real science, though how helpful that will be in writing a movie with a talking raccoon in it is anyones guess.

1. quesada is spouting so much BS its ridiculous. 2. so the new movie has an nobody directing it and it has characters that outside comics are unknown at all. they better have the greatest advertisment division ever. 3. QUESADA!! shoot him, punch him! quick throw a shoe!!

I don't understand the reasoning behind needing Rocket to be "taken seriously" after all he's a comic book character in a movie. Its not like this is a bio pic about JFK or anything.

Rocket's not a serious character anyway. He's the comic relief of the series. Cosmo on the other hand :)

For whatever else - I'm glad to see it. This has a lot of elements to make for a good cult film - lots of potential if tapped the right way.

Marvel Now… it's the new52 1 year later.

What I think might be a good business idea for the future of digital comics is a subscription/season pass model. Automate your pull list of 4 to 6 books. Instead of $4 per book per week, but you have click download every time, its $50 per book per year, and automatically downloads to your digital device. Factors like turnover of creative teams and interest in a particular story arc might not be the great for readers who could stop reading a book part way thru, but Marvel would already have the income. Also its not as gimmicky as motion comics or "infinite comics" or any of that Augmented Reality that requires both a physical comic and an iPad.

Not to mention they always bring up the seriousness of Rocket, but never say anything about Groot.

Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot and Rocket Raccoon.

Such a poor roster. Drax and Gamora are understandable and cool, but when people harp on about realistic premises and they'll be featuring a stupid talking raccoon. Sigh, how childish.

I like the cast and I love Rocket Raccoon a lot and he is the most important...stop complaining about what everyone likes.

Rocket Raccoon is going to be the Guardians downfall - unless they find a way to make him more likable than Yoda and find a way to really play that out in the trailers - or there will be no saving it.

The fan base alone isn't going to be enough - look at the mediocre reception the Amazing Spider-Man is receiving.

And If you put all your pre-conceived notions & disregard the previous Spider-Man movies - it truly is a GREAT film - Yes, Great! - not just good - sure there is some crummy CGI moments - but the story - the characterizations - the acting - is absolutely some of the BEST - the movie was emotional (I don't care who you are - at some point the Movie got to you - unless your a heartless Serial Killer.)

Guardians is going to be a REALLY TOUGH SELL - even with THANOS. I know they can really weave an incredible story - but - its going to come down to the Direction and Cinematography (CGI) and the overall scope. Its really going to have to be something Phenomenal - it can be done - but it will have to be better than the AVENGERS. Because the one thing Guardians won't have is a Super Star cast like the AVENGERS. The AVENGERS was a Good movie - Not a GREAT movie (I know I'll catch some flack for that.) But it wasn't a GREAT movie - It did not Inspire me - it didn't break new ground. The story wasn't mind blowing - didn't really get you to think about - well - Anything. Wasn't terribly emotionally charging. The Acting was OK - One and only one Surprise Break out performance by RUFFALO. Other than that Just a GOOD - FUN - movie with some really Dynamic shots and good CGI.

GUARDIANS of the GALAXY has to be BETTER - period!

ANT-MAN is going to be another Hard Sell - The story is really going to have to hit it out of the park in order to succeed and have a really Large name attached to it as Pym. There's just something about being diminutive in size that has a sense of playfulness and silliness that just won't be overlooked. I wouldn't envy the person assigned to direct it - its going to be a tough one.

Right on. A Guardians of the Galaxy movie? Sweet! I am one of those readers who actually enjoys the sci-fi/space universe of Marvel comics, so this is fun news!

While I currently don't have anything to do with digital comics, at least the alternative exists for readers. It is a good idea, I have to admit, and am glad Joe Quesada is saying he thinks both the print and digital versions have flourished.

I think in a few years, the move will be towards digital but the smaller Indie publishers might be the area where print comics will be. I think the bigger publishers will have comics in both digital and print, but a really bigger market hold on the digital end, as expected.

@SpitfireINK: Really (It did not Inspire me - it didn't break new ground. The story wasn't mind blowing) really so every movie have to be inspiring, mind blowing for to enjoy it and it did break new ground name a movie beside's the Avenger's that tied together 4 movie's but i bet everybody and there mom's calling the Dark Knight great but the Avenger's is good compared to a Batman movie that is still Overhyped. the Avenger's was Great, the acting was Great, the cast was Great in it's only going to get Better.

There used to just be four "Guardians of the Galaxy".

I know because I bought that issue of "Marvel Super-heroes" #18.

Over the decades, I have tried to keep up with them.

Now, I would not care.

They just have a cool sounding name...

And the movie will suck and sink.

So much other Marvel material to play with... and they go straight to the ragtags!

Black Panther Silver Surfer Captain Marvel Namor Dr. Strange!

You only need one turd in the pool to make everyone get out of the water!

And, I shoot every raccoon I see, with my shotgun.

Really!
