When Marvel Zombies first came out, it was a blast. It was simply a fun ride. The mini-series ended and we were satisfied. Then came the sequel. And the one after that and after that. It started to feel as if the franchise itself was starting to decompose. The novelty was just starting to wear off.
Marvel has announced the return of the original Marvel Zombies. Fred Van Lente is returning as well and he'll be joined by three novelists with a background in all things zombie.
Marvel Zombies Return: Spider-Man will feature Van Lente and artist Nick Dragotta telling the story of Zombie Spidey traveling through space and time circa Amazing Spider-Man #68.
Marvel Zombies Return: Iron Man will be written by novelist David Wellington with art by Andrea Mutti.
Marvel Zombies Return: Wolverine is coming courtesy of writer Jonathan Maberry and artist Jason Shawn Alexander. The undead mutant will face off against a bunch of martial artists. Sounds good to me.
Marvel Zombies Return: Hulk will be smashing your way written by "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" novelist Seth Grahame-Smith and art by Richard Elson.
Finally we'll have Marvel Zombies Return: Avengers by Van Lente and artist Wellington Alves.
"I can tell you that the 'event' [that brings them together] is the massive, apocalyptic climax to the entire MARVEL ZOMBIES RETURN series," notes Van Lente. "It's called 'Carnage on Infinite Earths' and involves the Blue Area of the Moon in a very significant way. Just remember these words, and where they come from:
"'Nobody knows what caused this exactly, but some people think it might have been a punch.'"
I'm actually looking forward to this. What do you think? Do you hunger for more Marvel Zombies? Have you enjoyed the last couple mini-series? Are you going to picke these up? If you haven't been keeping up, you'll be able to easily pick up on the fun here.
