what are your thoughts race changes in marvel movies?
On an intitial point of view, I don't mind it would feel off but as long as the actor does it well then great.
After, if the actor performed well then nice, if not then too bad. Honestly if ever there was any race changing that would bother me only because of how off it will feel is if the character is a big name hero.
curious that you dont mention Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury
I dont think any of the changes are bad at all
Nick Fury was an idea taken from Ultimattes so that wasn’t real a change in the movies but a question about where you took inspiration from. I’m against it often it feels unnecessary often it makes the movie less believable. The biggest e problem is more that the lack of big comic book heroes that are Black, Asian or Hispanic this shouldn’t be a problem the movie should fix this way,
I hate it. Thor is supposed to be an Asgardian, not an Australian, Storm is meant to be the perfect mix of every race, not Halle Berry, Galactus is meant to be a cosmic entity, not a cloud, and Frost Giants are supposed to be Frost Giants, not Americans using CGI. Forget that Thor comics often make mistakes like using American style Eagles instead of the that would be seen in Scandenavia, or that Hogun is meant to resemble Charles Bronson, and his ambigously vague eastern look, and come from Eastern lands, or that comic Thors mother is the actual planet Earth, and that comic Thor and myth Thor have tons of differences, just make the movies so it makes sense to me. I demand authenticity. Plus should get a blind actor to play Daredevil. Silver Surfer needs to be Zenn-Larian also, otherwise its just stupid and unnecessary.
If its not the main character, and the character's ethnicity isn't important for the story (et; Black Panther, Static, Icon, Jaime Reyes), I couldn't care less.
Hogun always looked like a Mongul warrior to me...and anyone else with eyes.
@THORSON: Hogun is not an Asgardian and comes froma place called mystic mountain that is ruled by mogul. Though not explicitly stated, Hogun is of Asian origin so the people who cast Tsubano as Hogun got it right.
In theory, its a good idea for Marvel to change the races of some of their characters who have been around longer and might have been a different race had social equality been like it is now when the characters were created.
In practise, I'm not always a fan. Nick Fury, for instance, is far cooler as a white guy in my opinion. Then again, Heimdall was awesomely done and that worked really well.
I prefer to keep things as close to the source material as possible, but in some cases it is necessary. In the case of the Kingpin how many actors have the stature and presence necessary to look the part and have talent? It's slim pickings so I fully understand going with Michael Clarke Duncan in this case. What really burns my a$$ is a situation like the terrible Street Fighter - Legend of Chun Li where they cast a white chick to play the part of a chinese martial artist. Are you telling me they could not find a chinese or even just asian actress with martial arts experience that could out act Kristen Kreuk?
Also you have to remember that many of these movies are based off of 50+ year old series that included nearly zero minorities, as much as I do not like the changes I understand they want to make these excessable to more than just 15-45 year old white guys.
To me its not about if they made a change, it's was the change necessary and/or for the better
@THORSON: I personally don't mind. It happens all the time in comics, so why can't it happen in the movies?
Ethnic change for the sake of change seems to be cheap pandering for multi-ethnic publicity. A Scandinavian god who resembles an African god insults the intelligence of any rational person. Halle Barry lacked the strength of character and physical stature of Storm, Grace Jones would have been better. Why not keep Nick Fury caucassion, unless the implication is that there is something wrong with being old and white; just kill him off already and have his more ethnically diverse protege or son (or grandson, in this case) take on his responsibilities. Create and develop some good ethnic characters instead of changing previously existing popular characters to fit the new stereotype.
And how about we drop the use of the word 'race' as inflammatory. There is one race; the human race. Thor and his ilk are a different race. Mutants being a divergent species of the human race with Ororo from a separate species of human than African negro, European caucassion or Asian mongul.

And I say "Amen" to that!

It's unnecessary, therefore it doesn't need to happen and shouldn't.
Well I hope Tyler Perry gets the next Avengers movie and does all black cast jjst to watch you two burst a blood vessel lol

Michael Clark Duncan was a PERFECT King Pin. (RIP)
Heimdall pissed me off. It made no sense to change the race. The role was so small Elba certainly didn't get cast because of his acting chops. It was change for change's sake and didn't even make sense in the context. It was a poor move.
Jamie Kennedy as Electro? I'll have to see. Just saw Django and that was awesome. I'm optimistic.
Hogun is Asiatic. Always has been as far as I know. My pet peeve with the warriors three was that they were ALL too pretty (except Fandrel of course, he was perfect).

The one cared the most about was Agent Zero. I know he isn't a big name or anything but I grew up lovin' Nord. I wanted to a see a man with sexy German accent and the beginning friendship (that won't really last) with Logan. (love that bar scene) Instead, I got watered down with no development version of him. I was a sad panda.
