The buzz is Ryan Coogler is developing a Wakanda series for Disney Plus. Perhaps it will be an Agents of Wakanda storyline with stories told by different agents. As far as we know the war dog initiative hasn't been disbanded but their approach has been most likely changed.
I think this is a better direction for all who are still hung up on the idea that there can be no one to fill in T'Challa's place with Chadwick gone. I loved Chadwick too but I will remember him better for his portrayal of Thurgood Marshall, a true fighter for equality.
When people say that we can't have someone replace T'Challa after Chadwick, I shrug and brush it off. I say this because characters in comic book movies have been portrayed by others and sometimes the new talent overshadow their predecessor in some ways.
It's hard for me to admit but there were aspects of Ledger's Joker that captured the character well versus Nicholson's take but it really depends on the source material available at the time and how the character has developed over the years.
For T'Challa, people have to move beyond the idea that no one else can portray him except for Chadwick. That is exactly the same narrow minded thinking that T'Challa was trying to fight and end in Black Panther. Examples like having Wakanda shut off from the world, his father's decision to abandon Killmonger in Oakland and being diplomatic with the Jabari Tribe.
If there is to be a Black Panther 2, I hope Shuri does take on the mantle during her brother's absence. T'Challa doesn't have to be killed off. Coogler can simply say T'Challa was looking for a diplomatic solution with the Atlanteans and things go awry and he is presumed dead.
I know its a hackneyed idea but it's worked so many times (especially in those soap operas) and will continue to: T'Challa isn't dead but in a comatose ward or has amnesia which is why he hasn't returned. This will give people enough time to move on and find a worthy successor to assume T'Challa for the future.
