How the hell was Captain America able to stop the helicopter from taking off?

This has been nagging at me for a long time. People only talk about how he was able to curl a helicopter, which is cool and all, but how was he able to stop it from taking off in the first place? Shouldn't he just be lifted with the helicopter?

Believe when the movie was first coming out and this clip was scene, the directors compared to a normal human mother lifting a car off her child. Humans are capable of extreme feats when under massive adrenaline surges.

This is supposedly Cap in that situation, only he obviously is super human.

@fallschirmjager: Except that even in those extreme feats they didn't increase their weight to 2,000 pounds. I'm fine with Captain America curling the helicopter, but I can't believe that he generated enough force to bring the helicopter down with him.

@lpnq: Again, strength doesn't mean anything in this situation. He held onto the helicopter, and it should have taken off with him holding onto it. But no, it went lower than it should have, and he was able to put himself in the curling situation. It makes no sense, he shouldn't be able to produce enough force to bring the helicopter down.

@deadmansticks: Strength means everything in this situation, how does it not?

He held on? Yes he did.

He pulled it lower? yes he did. This comes from strength.

What do you mean he shouldn't have been able to produce the force? it's fiction the author can have him chuck motorcycles 50~yards he cant pull a helicopter down?

@lpnq: Have you ever tried to pull down a roof? Do you know what happens when you try? You pull yourself up. He needed to produce over 6,000 pounds (maximum takeoff weight of the helicopter used) of downwards force to bring the helicopter down. Now, I don't know about you, but swinging around 200 pounds of weight (how much Chris Evans weighs) isn't going to produce enough force to bring it down.

Its a movie with a dude swinging with webfluid, a guy with a metal arm, another guy that can shrink to the size of an ant. All these are ok to you but this isn't. K

@deadmansticks: He clinged on really hard to the rooftop?

The force created by Cap is greater than the force that the helicopter takes to lift off, therefore the helicopter came down.

just like when you're dragging something, you bring it to yourself ; not you going to the object you're dragging.

i drew a really ugly picture in paint that took about 20 second to make, if you want me to upload it i will.

@eto: I'm fine with those because those abilities that you mention come with the character. I'm not so certain that the supersoldier serum that made Cap who he is had some fine print at the bottom stating, "Oh yeah, this can make dudes stop helicopters from taking off with anchor feet."

Because of the Power of American Freedom?

I dont know... Capt sudden approach probably disrupted some aerodynamic thingy in the rotor operation causing some unintended lost of lift...

Bucky then attempted to stabilized it rather than fed more power hence the copter didnt flew off/flew up

I never fly any helicopters in my life so its as ignorant guessing as it could get,

Anyway, I'll stick with my initial Murican Freedom hypothesis,

@mimisalome: Anything is possible with American Freedom and American Determination.

Realistically, the helicopter shouldn't have experienced any sort of significant flight disruption. 6,000 pounds is a lot.

What I want to know, if we are nitpicking movies, is how the Hulk didn't destroy those buildings in New York City in Avengers when he was leaping from building to building. Or how the big Chitauri whale collapsing on a building didn't crush it. Or how Scarlet Witch threw Vision straight into the earth a thousand feet when he could phase out of it. Or how Steve Rogers' liver heals so quickly that he can't get drunk, but he can't heal from bullets in CW....the list goes on....

@laughingbatman: Wait, how can the leviathan fly in the first place? Also, scarlet witch wasn't throwing vision, she was decreasing and increasing his density.

I'm not arguing the validity of Cap's feat. I'm telling you what the director's had to say about it. Take it up with them if you have a problem with it.
