The International Space Station comes into collision with an unknown flying object that possibly was sent from Japan: on impact, the thing crumbles into a myriad tiny paper cranes. While it causes no damage, the accident creates a widespread anxiety: many people think it's the warning of an unidentified terrorist group. The Detective of the Impossible is summoned to the Land of the Rising Sun for his expert advice, but he's involved in a clash between criminals who use deadly origami-weapons and holy men who worship Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess. And the icy light of the nuclear fire that struck Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 looms above all of them.
