Mark Gatiss is an English actor, comedian screenwriter and novelist. He's most widely known for being a member of the comedy group 'The League of Gentleman' for which he co-wrote all sketches and acted alongside Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton and co-writer and actor Jeremy Dyson. He's written and acted in several TV-episodes of Doctor Who since it started again in 2005. He's also written and acted in a number of Doctor Who audio books by Big Finish Production. He wrote a novel trilogy called 'The Vesuvius Club' of which all three books are available in paper and in audio books. The audio books are masterfully read by Gatiss himself who does all the accents of all the people in the books. The first book of The Vesuvius Club was also made into a graphic novel by Ian Bass. Though there were plans to make the trilogy into a movie a dispute between Mark Gatiss and the film company that bought the rights will probably not see it getting made any time soon.

Mark plays Sherlock's brother, Mycroft Holmes. The Sherlock series has reached high acclaim and consistently higher ratings and viewers, with the last episode of season 2 watched by more than 8 million viewers in the United Kingdom.
