The only way Samuel Jackson could mess it up is for him to suddenly whip out a purple lightsaber from his trench coat. Not only would that suck, George Lucas would sue Marvel all the way down till they crash and burn.
About the Helicarrier.. could it be it's premier launching in avengers 2012 movie or has it always been around before Tony Stark's technology appeared ?
Well that's your opinion.. and yes, there's been a few movies in which - yes, he's been particularly foulmouthed. But yet others when he comes of rather eloquently. Sometimes you've got to play a role the way you feel it comes to you.
I think fury is going to have some action in this movie because you can see him shoot his gun in the avengers teaser (I hope he gets some more action) and Maria looks great she looks like in the comics.

I hope she has at least some kind of substantial role, but with a film with such a big ensemble, I'm afraid she might be lost to background character :/
o_O I think it's the face, but he just looks...well, WEIRD in this image. At least not when compared to... Hulk 2008 He just looks chubby or something, not sure how to describe it really, I just hope Hulk looks better in the actual movie than he does here...
