People hate it because "not my finger stripes!" nonsense. While I wasn't the biggest fan of how Jonathon died I thought the movie was okay.

So you don't like it when MCU fans consider AoU a masterpiece and a flawless movie but it's ok when you think MoS is a masterpiece and people aren't allowed to not like it?

@sergeant-rl3:

I get the first point, some people dont like too much destruction, but it was needed to set up BvS and the Metropolis editing was beautiful

I personally dont mind Snyders Supes, he is a lot more darker than the comics which people dont like. In the Justice Leauge film they kinda fixed your problem, they used the classic Superman theme, made him smile a bit more and his suit is a whole lot lighter.

Right, too bad though JL has so many problems of its own.

The story doesn't flow well. Some of the dialogues and plot points are bizarre and simply don't make any sense. I also didn't like certain characters such as Ma and Pa Kent. I consider MOS to be worse than BVS.

@callmeblast: I do agree that it does take a long ass time to get to the first fight scene (Faora, Nam ek etc.) but I think it was good that it was structured like that because if it was cut up then you'd have the "messy complaints, plot holes" etc. its an amazing film for me but maybe not the best superhero film for some people.

@from_beyond: I thought the flow was alright. Can you be specific about the dialogue/plot points please? Im not a big fan of John but I think Martha puts up a great performance. Fair enough, BvS is a different style to Mos.

@callmeblast: MOS produces a very deep origin of Supes so its long, we cover a lot of krpyton, younger years etc.

To begin with, it didn't suck. It was an okay movie, but hardly one of the best CBM movies out there, and certainly not the best Superman movie.

1. WAY too dark and grim. I'm fine with Clark having to deal with angst and finding his place in the world and all but I don't remember ever seeing the HERO Superman. The guy who feels just compelled by his gut, or his upbringing to do good and save people. It's almost like "Well, I have no other choice, so I HAVE to do this."

2. I wasn't overly impressed with the action quite frankly. I didn't mind the "destruction porn" particularly to be honest. I'm thinking that's pretty much how a fight between two people of that kind of power (especially if one of them is a psychopath) would likely go down. It's just that very little of it felt convincing to me, it just seemed really TOO epic and "look at what we can do with all this CGI". It felt to me like there were too few instances (between Zod and Superman) where it felt like a personal fight, more like two super powered wrecking balls you saw from a distance.

Again, I didn't hate it, it wasn't those are just the two major things that kept me from thinking this was a GOOD movie. Especially a good Superman movie.

It would have been better islf Cavills acting wouldn't have been so wooden he had struggles showing emotion he's gotten better but he was bad in that movie

I will list a few things that I didn't like about MOS. Remember, the things I didn't like or were not fun to me may be perfectly fine for you. Movie's are subjective to a great extent. When we watch a movie, we generally have an idea about how we felt. We may not always be able to verbalize why we like or dislike a movie as experiences can't always be put down in words. However, I will make an attempt to list some reasons behind my disagreements.

(1) I found Pa Kents character disagreeable. I don't remember anything objectionable said by Martha in MOS but in BVS she said a few things that made it look like she was cut out of the same clothe as Pa kent, hence my dislike for the character. However, based on MOS alone, my biggest complain about the character is that she didn't provide an alternative view point to Pa Kent which made me suspect she agreed with him. After BVS, it was clear she did agree. I am not saying that one can't find rational justification for Pa Kents point of view, I am only speaking of the experience I got when I watched the movie.

(2) There were few plot points that I found ridiculous. For example, Clark letting Pa Kent die.

(3) Plot was incoherent at times, at least to me. For example, what was Clark doing sauntering around on North Pole the very first time. That was never explained. Story simply didn't flow very well. I think Snyder should have stuck with linear story telling instead of jumping timelines. His story telling skills are already weak. He didn't need to add an extra level of complexity to make his task harder.

(4) Also, the movie simply wasn't as fun as it could have been. For example, when bullies were harassing Clarke, he simply sat and did nothing. Compare that scene with the first Spiderman movie. When Peter kicks Flash's ass, it was so much fun and satisfying to see. Similarly, when that rude trucker was harassing the waitress and mocked Clarke, Supes simply stepped out of the bar and the next thing we see is that truckers truck is on a tree. I didn't like that. It would have been a lot better if Clarke had kicked that guys ass and forced him to apologize. But no, for some reason Snyder thought it's better to destroy property including the tree. The trucker might even have insurance and gotten his money back.

Again, you can find rational and justifiable explanations for a lot of scenes I am complaining about, but I am only describing the experiences those scenes evoked in me as a viewer. Despite my criticism, I still think MOS was unfairly criticized by critics. The movie is not worse than many highly rated Marvel movies such as Captain America 1, Ant man, Thor 1 or Iron man 2.

@grimus: that's a bad argument considering that the destruction breaks down like this:

30% world engine

20% The other two

50% Zod and superman

Beyond that, the destruction is just eye candy. It never means anything, it's consequence free.

@sergeant-rl3: Yeah and you didn't add in the Military

Don't understand how you call it pointless when there were consequences of all kinds- The beginning of BvS explained that.

Not to mention the people that were saved during the fight

The military was largely inconsequential as far as the destruction was concerned. And yes, the destruction in MoS was pointless. There's no tension watching two indestructible people punch each other and break everything around them. "Oh, superman just flew Zod though a huge building...and it didn't hurt him at all...Maybe it'll be different when he tries the same thing another ten times." It's a boring cgi fest where there are no real stakes, ESPECIALLY when the whole thing comes down to a neck snap. They might as well have not even battled around the city in the first place, it had no bearing on how the battle would actually end.
