Laurence Fishburne is the New Perry White in Man of Steel
@spiderbat87 said:Hay nobody moaned when MJ did it for realThis is stupid, its like arguing that Chris Evans is from Boston not NYnot really. it's the equivalent of making a movie about Chris and making him Black.
I don't have a problem with it, since Laurence Fishburne is a good actor. But, Perry has had a pivotal role in the Superman mythos as a White man. Why change it?
The Daredevil movie's main mistake (other than casting Ben Affleck as Daredevil) was making Kingpin a Black man.
@Caligula said:what if instead of Snipes they casted Jason Statham as Blade? would you tell the legions of fans enraged by disrespect for the tradition of the character to STFU.@shackle said:No. And? You have a point? Is Perry White's race somehow pertinent to the character? No? Then STFU.is Blades?
@shackle said:But Blade is not a periphery character, he is a LEAD character. See the difference? White's race really doesn't mean diddly--he's the "Boss" character. He could be a lamp for all that it really matters in the Superman canon.@Caligula said:what if instead of Snipes they casted Jason Statham as Blade? would you tell the legions of fans enraged by disrespect for the tradition of the character to STFU.@shackle said:No. And? @Caligula said:would you call Jimmy and Lois peripheral characters? no. Neither is White. just because you see him that way doesn't mean everyone else does. Is JJJ a peripheral character?@shackle said:But Blade is not a periphery character, he is a LEAD character. See the difference? White's race really doesn't mean diddly--he's the "Boss" character. so if anyone needs to STFU, I'd think twice.
@Caligula said:No. I don't get hiding behind years of institutional racism in order to maintain a white's only casting policy for major Hollywood films. And I'm sorry for you, that you do get that. Hopefully the one or two white male superheroes that get to star in movies these days will be enough to comfort you in this time of distress.
@ScarlettLynn said:you really really really don't get it.
@Marshal Victory said:Its hypocritical to say this race role cant be changed because its a minority but this role can because their more of that race. Its as racist to want to see a movie/comic because a race role was changed, as not wanting to see it because of some ones race.
It's just simply not. It's not the same thing and it's incredibly sad that you can't see past the wall of white privilege to grasp that. Erasing representation of other cultures, races or skin colors is NOT the same thing as simply choosing to include one talented actor who happens to be black in a film role.
No its realy obvious you realy dont get it ScarlettLynn .But you are to psyhic .You know me ,my race an my views. Oh the broad brush you paint with in the name if "fairness".Focus on the past an punish the present instead of working the present for the futrue.
Its not sad that you dont understand fairness.Think theirs a word for it .. hmm you threw it around a bit.Ohh youll figure it out im sure.Well actualy you wount ever see it .Since like to force a race into a role just to fit your fairness.By the way let me blow your mind http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/jjmnolte/2011/08/03/morning-call-sheet-superman-perry-white-raymond-and-bad-movies-with-the-word-green-in-the-title/
their the writer is a conservative movie critic. An he call the casting of of perry white Good Casting. So far in the forums nothing but suport for Laurence Fishburne . Most of us who like source material are just saying its a needless ,pointless change. Its those who want race the issue that are makeing it into a cause celb. How dare you disagree if you want source material honored you must be racist.
Im just saying stick with the source material. Its you who want to some how fix past wrongs threw a super hero movie by changing race.An change from a majority to minorty some how fixs your past opresion? How about source material with race of the actors fiting the time period of the source material?By the way when caucasians become a minorty ,an they will .Just cant see you having the same stance.
Oh for the record im a american mutt .I stoped caring about race long ago.You talk of things wount change. Um seriously stop living in a opressed world veiw an actualy look around a bit.Theirs many a leading actor/actress of various race an creeds an even political colors.
i wount shower you with faint holyer than thou sadness .Ill just tell it to ya straight. Your being what you acuse every one else of.An i realy dont care if that comforts you in your time of disress.Doubt you have them.Being psyhic an all.
It t would matter if you changed blade.
Perry is more a supporting character then a periphery character but even if he was so what. A characters description matters no matter the role.
If a character because their role size or specific details are not important doesn't mean it's not important to someone else/
Also I don't know if we were watching the same movie or not but MCD's Kingpin was one of the best parts of that movie.
I'm going to give my baby niece some shapes to play with.
I have 6 squares and 2 triangles to give. oh no I don't have enough triangles to give I better go buy some more. WAIT! I can't do that that would make me shapist. I better carve these squares up and make them triangles because everyone knows The only reason I would rather buy more triangles instead of carving the squares is because I'm a shapist.
I'm going to give my baby niece some shapes to play with.lol

People can say what they want about what I'm about to say but I honestly wouldn't mind seeing Donald Glover as Jimmy Olsen.
It does not matter if Perry White is a white man or not considering his color has no bearing on his character. Most people outside of comic book readers don't even know who Perry White is. Tell me what effect does Perry being white have on his character?
At the point that it's a part of his character to be White. That's what he's been established as, so what's the point of changing it for a Hollywood movie?@Static Shock: At what point does Perry being a white man matter?
@Caligula: Yes I would care because as I said before Storm's history, character, morals, and quite a few of her experiences come from her ethnicity. African's would not worship Lucy Lui as an AFRICAN GODDESS. Storm isn't a sideline character whose ethnicity doesn't play into her character like Perry White is. It does not matter if Perry White is a white man or not considering his color has no bearing on his character. Most people outside of comic book readers don't even know who Perry White is. Tell me what effect does Perry being white have on his character?about the same as Storms. Storm was born in New York, so she isn't actually African, she was raised in Africa. and regardless they worship her because of her powers not because she is black. if an Asian flew in and brought the destitute rain she would be worshiped too.
Did you not consider the fact that maybe Fishburne's race was never even a factor in him getting the job maybe it was his acting ability.
@Static Shock: Can we please stop putting Perry White into the same caliber of character as T'Challa and Ororo. As I have said before T'challa and Storm's character, history, morals, and quite a few of their life experiences are drawn from their ethnicity. Which of Perry's experiences are drawn from his ethnicity? The fact that he is the Editor and Chief of a news paper?J. Jonah Jameson should have been black too
@Caligula: No she would not have and you know it. NO matter how you try and spin it changing Storm or T'challa's race would make no sense considering just how heavily the character is built around their race.you are going to tell me if you were thirsting to death, and asian came in with mystical powers and gave you rain and food. you wouldn't see them as a god/goddess...?
Which of Perry's experiences are drawn from his ethnicity? The fact that he is the Editor and Chief of a news paper?I don't really care, to be honest. He's been White for several decades, and it has been that way in every movie, TV show, and cartoon show he's appeared. Again, what's the point of changing it? It's not like they can't find a good White actor to play his role, and I'm sure there's plenty.
If anything, Snyder is just looking for an excuse to put a Black man in the movie, even though there are several Black characters that are tied into Superman's mythos and live in Metropolis. Jefferson Pierce and John Henry Irons come to mind. If he was smart, he'd cast a Black man in one of those roles or something.
@Lance Uppercut: I wouldn't have cared as long as an amazing actor was the reason they were changing his race and not diversity. I think the reason Laurence Fishburne was chosen was because he is an amazing actor simple as that.Lucy Liu is goddman good actress too. .
Then again, Lex Luthor was Black (just light-skinned) in Superman: The Animated Series and in Justice League.... LOL. Bruce Timm was able to make that work, however.

@Static Shock: Frank Langella is not white nor does he look white. He's closer to being White than Laurence Fishburne is.
@Static Shock: Frank Langella is not white nor does he look white, and as I said before have you considering the fact that Fishburne got the role because of his acting ability. People tried to do this same thing when Heimdall was cast as a black man, but they quickly shut the hell up when they saw for themselves why he was chosen.again you are not listening. Static and I as well as everyone are not doubting his performance and that it will be good. nearly everyone thinks he is going to be amazing. But changing the race was pointless and dumb.
