    Metal.

Magneto tends to make his costume out of whatever metal is lying around. The entire thing is an ultra-fine chain mail. "Pliable and comfortable as cloth, yet strong as body armor".

Contrary to popular belief, in the comic books (at least in the 616) Magneto's helmet is NOT psychic resistant. That was a convention created for the movies.

even though its only used in the movies and cartoons, i like how magneto wears the helmet and thats why charles xavier cant get into his head, for some reason it seems cooler to me than him just having a natural resistance to telepathy or him having latent telepathic powers...
juggernaut wears a helmet like this too, right?
they should explain how the helmets work...it cant be just a regular helmet made of metal... it has to have something in it that cover up certian parts of magneto and juggernaut heads and prevent telepaths from getting past into thier minds.
and if magneto has the helmet on ( and im talking the magneto that needs the helmet) he would never have to worry about anyone ever knocking it off of his head because he could just always subconciencely hold it tightly in place with his mutant ability.

Probably because it was shown in the animated series so often.

That might be it, the 90's cartoon was how I was introduced to X-Men.
