    THE GOOD

The art was magnificent. The story was expertly written and wonderfully executed. Some big name characters outside the "X-Men Universe" were well used. I really enjoyed the banter between Steve and Tony before and after their meeting with Erik and Scott. The dialog between the four of them in the Avengers Mansion was well written and fit the mood of the story. The amount of disrespect coming from either side of the conference table was palpable. Magneto's "show of might" was awesome and really opens your eyes to what is really possible - and why he should be considered one of the most powerful and dangerous characters of all time. "I am not a man easily limited." - awesome.

One of my favorite parts of the issue was the introduction of Magneo's version of Cerebro. As I included in the wiki entry for this issue, it gives Magneto the ability to track down specific types of mutants - not on the psionic plane, but rather in the magnetosphere. It was not referenced by name in the issue, only by function. If I had my druthers, I would call it "Magnebro". :)

    THE BAD

I really loved this issue, but I did have one question: How did the video evidence survive a magnetic attack? It didn't look like it was a device that could stream it directly to the internet, but maybe the new SUNY brand video recordings have that built in Wi-Fi - they must have been borrowing it from the Brooklyn Educational Opportunity Center. ;)

The only other "gripe" I could have is the somewhat unnecessary "diary of a mutant teenager" bit between Surge and Pixie. Maybe it was included in the story for the same reason Erik eased into his request for assistance from Emma? There have been less crafty segues...

    THE VERDICT

Get your hands on this issue and read it. :) It is only a fours issue limited series, so it is not a big monetary investment for such a great story line. There are some great characters and likely a big fight coming in the upcoming issues - part one lays a great foundation for the story and provides a nice preview for the upcoming issues. I am sure there will be a trade, but I wouldn't want to wait any longer than I had to to read this!

Can I just say that I LOVE Magneto lately? When he went all “good guy” I was a little skeptical to say the least. Like “Didn’t we already do this once before?” But no we haven’t! He may be one of the X-men now and dutifully following Cyclops’ orders, but he really isn’t all THAT changed from his super villain days. It’s not like last time he joined the team and he suddenly became this new and improved good person with feelings and a heart. NOT EVEN CLOSE. No he is still a hardcore mutant advocat...

Comics can be an interesting story-telling medium. They always want you to think unlikely things are going to happen in each story arc and mini-series. But if you read long enough you start to see through the hyperbole. So I went into this booking thinking - Magneto didn't really suddenly turn terrorist. What's going on? Mind control? Someone dressed like him? While the issue is an entertaining read, it really fails to live up to what it claims to be.As for the ending of this issue:SPOILER WARNI...
