With help from Sean's ability to ooze fear, Stanis cracks and reveals that Mirth is the reason the darkness can track their movements so easily. Mirth's position as the most powerful magician on this plane of existence makes him easy to spot for anyone attuned to magic. With help from the Umbra Sprite, Stanis attempts to escape. Kevin stops the attempt, but his apartment is burned down in the process. Mirth decides to leave the group, submerging himself within the computerized ATM network where he cannot be traced. He leaves Sean to advise Kevin, and as a parting gift he gives Kevin a magical ATM card.
