Twins Madeleine and Judith Benoir were born and raised in Paris. In the early 20th century the pair, both artists, became involved on the periphery of the Surrealist art scene. Madeleine, a playwright who often relied on designing and selling dresses to make a living, was shy and self-effacing. By contrast, her twin, a painter, was bold and sociable, leading a hedonistic and scandalous lifestyle. Unfortunately, Judith attracted the attentions of the wealthy and mentally ill Mathieu Arbogast, who raped her. Following her sister's rape, Madeleine took the matter into her own hands.
Madeleine Benoir was created by Jason Hall and Cliff Chiang. She is based on the original Creeper, created by Steve Ditko, .
