@r2datu: too deep for me lol. im a face value/blunt person. cant read subtext or symbolism so even if i were to watch this film i wouldnt get any of that. like i said its not my style only really into scifi/fantasy kind of action (hong knong kung fu films, magic/witchcraft, or superheroes) and not into the crazy, weird, dark/gritty and overly violent stuff. examples of action films that i love are the sorceror's apprentice, guardians of the galaxy, and so close.

i also have no ties to the original films, waaaay before my time heck i didnt even know there were more than one film with tina turner. now mighty max is a max film i could get behind. like people there are films for everyone this one just isnt for me

Fair enough but I'm confused as to why you were criticising the film as not being deep enough when you don't like deep films?

@r2datu:you can have emotional depth without being subtle and forcing your audience to look for something. i.e. pitch perfect 2 and age of ultron.

i have no problem with "deep" films i just dont see how a film like this be that. i wasnt being critical of the film just not into this dark and gritty stuff as i've said before. what is cool and visually stunning to you just looks gross and creepy to me. give me clean pretty and happy over dark, dirty and ugly anyday

THis was a breath of fresh air especially after that very disappointing and lackluster Avengers 2, horrible Chappie film, and overrated Fast 7 film.

Best film of the year so far.(it'll probably be topped by Hateful 8 and StarWars VII though)

Having a preference over visuals and tone is perfectly fine, but your initial claim that fans are ignoring the writing just isn't true. I mean, it's even discussed the review above. The movie isn't being praised just because it has entertaining stunts and directing -- a more than fair portion of praise goes to the creativity and meaning that went into constructing this world and the handling of its few main characters. The overall story technically is incredibly simple, but no one is denying that and that doesn't mean the script is simple. Instead, many of us love how some characters are handled, the way the world is constructed, and what it says about humanity. So again, if the movie isn't for you, that's perfectly fine. But this movie isn't winning people over just because of visuals.

@k4tzm4n: that maybe true for you sir but i've read/heard reviews from well over ten people and they all say the same thing: greatest action movie ever, there is nothing to spoil cause there is no real plot and it doesnt matter cause this is what a summer blockbuster truly should be etc etc. all they praise is the action, the visuals (the flaming guiter for one), and the design of the cars. the little they try to tell of the plot is glazed over cause they dont think its a solid plot or that it doesnt truly go any place (the whole thing with the green place for instance).

if you found some deeper meaning to it great for you but the majority just enjoy it for its over the topness and action. i know a lot of people would see my favorite film of the year (pitch perfect 2!!) as just silly fluff but for me it touched my heart, had me smiling from ear to ear even til now two days later after seeing it and will be going to catch it again this weekend!!! just cause i love something doesnt mean i have to be bias towards to ignore what it can be seen as to the majority. movies like music are very personal and every once and a while you can find someone who had a shared experience

Actually, I only want to see the previous ones as much as I like post-apocalyptic genre. I heard this isn't much of Max's story despite the title. It would be like playing Max Payne with Max being an NPC.

98% positive with 232 reviews counted. The general consensus reads:

"With exhilarating action and a surprising amount of narrative heft, Mad Max: Fury Road brings George Miller's post-apocalyptic franchise roaring vigorously back to life."

So that means that the majority of those 232 professional reviewers praised the narrative element of the film. So yes, if you want to talk about what the MAJORITY of reviewers believed, the majority believed that the film in fact had a solid, well executed plot told with surprising intricacy and narrative weight.

All this praise it's getting and yet I still have no interest in watching it. It has a high rating on sites like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes... but it's just not grabbing me. I'll see it when I see it I guess

Max definitely has the most screen time and is definitely the protagonist.

Have you seen Dredd?

Nope! He's definitely the protagonist. It's as much Max's story as Road Warrior and Thunder Dome were.

It was a load of crap!!! People who enjoyed this probably loved n bummed Godzilla aswell!!

First off, Tom hardy cant act, he sounds like bane again when he does speak, which is like 2 sentences max! And then he mumbles so you cant understand him. The bloke with the flamethrower guitar didn't even need to be in it, every time he came on I thought it turned into a comedy, couldn't wait for him to die!! Tom hardy has no charisma at all and is nothing on Mel Gibson, all this hype and then I was was disappointed, I lost 2 hrs of my life and I got charged for it!!! End of rant!

This movie was so good. I feel like there might have been a scene taken out at one point where Max was going to get back his car since there is that moment where the guy next to the truck has his car and he sees it and is like "That's mine!" I was really hoping to see max behind the wheel of a normal car at some point.

I cannot believe I didn't see this review earlier.

This film was fantastic. Your review was spot on, I can't really add much more.

Reading over some of these comments has me a bit confused, but reassuringly, the majority reacted the same as me. This film is my favourite so far this summer, and I suspect this will remain so. There is a lot to be proud of in here, from the writer to director to the cast (let alone all the amazing practical effects). Brilliant effort, all around.

I did want to tell you, @r2datu, your contributions have been enjoyable to read as well. Thanks.
