"Sent to prison ... for a crime [he] didn’t commit, [Carl Lucas--now known as Luke Cage--] promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the [New York City] underground.

Today, still wanted by the government, [he] survive[s] as [a] [soldier] of fortune.

If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find [him] - maybe you can hire the [Power Man]."

    Defining Luke Cage

If you turn the right corner in New York City, you can find anything. Sometimes that 'anything' is trouble--the kind of trouble you can't run from--the kind of trouble you can't hide from. In that moment, when you can feel the armies of the night bearing down on you, there's one man you can count on to bail you out: Luke Cage, the Hero for Hire.

Born Carl Lucas, this streetwise Hercules once worked as a racketeer in New York City alongside his best friend Willis Stryker. The two young men split when Lucas renounced his criminal lifestyle and started a romantic relationship with Stryker's ex-girlfriend Reva Connors. Jealous and angry, Stryker framed Lucas with the crime of possessing narcotics. Lucas's anger stewed while he was behind bars. One day, Dr. Noah Burstein, a research scientist, offered Lucas a way out: participation in an electro-chemical experiment in exchange for Lucas's freedom. Lucas accepted. Billy Bob Rackham, a bitter prison guard, sabotaged the experiment, which left Lucas with super strength, super stamina, and "steel-hard" skin. Never one to turn down a good opportunity, Lucas escaped the prison and made his way back to New York City. While there, he stopped a robbery by pure instinct, only to have a passerby praise him as a “super-hero.” This event inspired Lucas to become a "Hero for Hire." Lucas made a costume for himself, changed his name to Luke Cage, set up shop over the Gem Theater, and strode forth into the mean underbelly of New York, quickly building a tough reputation for himself as "the Power Man."

After a long series of larger-than-life adventures, Luke cleared his name. Along the way, he earned the respect of many other heroes because of his grit, conviction, indomitable willpower, and drive to make the world around him a better place.

This towering urban juggernaut is equal parts Trouble Man, Equalizer, A-Team, Shaft, and Hercules. He's a man on fire, who's willing to tear down criminal empires "brick-by-brick--body-by-body." And he won't quit until the job's done--because he doesn't bend and he doesn't break.

Mehcad Brooks Is Able To Embody Luke Cage

What makes Luke fierce is the fire in his gut. As seen below, thirty-four year-old actor Mehcad Brooks (6'3") is able to embody that ferocity--that strength--in his roles.

But what makes Luke great isn't just how tough his exterior is, it's also how gentle, warm, and compassionate his heart is--not to mention how funny he is. Mehcad is able to embody those characteristics as well:

Why Mehcad Brooks Is The Best Candidate For The Role

Besides Mehcad, some of the names bandied about for Luke include Terry Crews, Isaiah Mustafah, and Chad Coleman.

Terry Crews and Isaiah Mustafah look too old for the role of a young, streetwise Hercules whose is turning his life around when he is framed for a crime he didn't commit. In addition, Terry Crews is contracted with Brooklyn 99, and Chad Coleman is contracted with The Walking Dead.

Mehcad Brooks is the right age and build for the role, can embody all Luke's characteristics well, and is free to sign on for the role.

In conclusion, I really hope Marvel hires Mehcad Brooks to play Luke Cage.
