A personal favourite of mine, this issue of Lucifer. It goes into great detail as to how and why Lucifer rebelled, as well as delving into his shared history with Lilith, the first wife of Adam, and the mother of the Lilim. In the pages of Sandman, Lucifer asks Morpheus the following question:
This issue does, in my opinion, a great job at depicting said pre-fall Lucifer. I should, perhaps even must, note, too, that in the same page that I took this quote from, Lucifer, while reflecting back at his past, states that his passion, his caring nature, was why everything started going wrong. I disagree: Things started to go wrong when he stopped caring.
