omertalvendetta's Loki #4 - The Trials of Loki Part 4: The Crooked Path review

    Finale!

    Cover:

A little bland in comparison to previous covers, but not all that bad.  It showcases the fact that Loki is a shapeshifter, which also relates to the interior content.

    The Good:

The colors and art were really good, as was the characterization of most Asgardians.  There's unfortunately not very much else that was done properly with this issue.  The ending was typical but pleasing, I guess, but see below for more comments on what I didn't particularly care for in the ending.

    The Bad:

The mythology was weak, which is very disappointing considering that is what most of this series had going for it.  We get back to the very beginning of the miniseries, and a bit of what happened there is addressed, but my main dilemma is that after four issues (three which were absolutely great), I still don't understand the point of this tale.  Sure, we see a little bit of folklore that hasn't been illustrated before, maybe, but I just feel slightly cheated.  He gets what's coming to him, but what now?

    Overall:

The miniseries has delivered, but this last issue felt immensely weak in comparison to the rest of them.  I wish they had gone out with a bang. I'm really curious what will actually come out of this, as it seems that it didn't really contribute anything concrete to main continuity.  We just got an extra tale, which isn't always bad, but in this case, I just don't see the point.

    3.5/5

Nice review. I agree that the entire mini-series was well done, and maybe this issue left us wanting more.

    -Spoiler------
I enjoyed the first part of the story with the troll. the tale's narrative did well to supplement loki's character motives for the rest of the issue. The dinner dialogue well done as well. and Loki the shape-shifter! I feel like this issue would have been much better if they had made the loki/thor fight a two page spread, because it seems to end so abruptly(the 3 page add didnt help either). As for the conclusion, I was left very intrigued. What kind of lessons will loki have learned in his dreams?
The armies of the dead hmm.... I would be verry excited to hear if another loki series, with equal calibre to this, was in production.

@carnivalofsins00: I'd get it in trade and discounted.  I think the tale would serve better that way.  It's pretty enjoyable and if you enjoy Loki, then definitely.

Editor Alejandro Arbona, in consultation with writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and artists Sebastian Fiumara and Al Barrionuevo, Alvaro Lopez and Michel Lacombe have put together a collection of the Norse myths that most prominently fe...
