    Living Tribunal

Character » Living Tribunal appears in 177 issues.

The Living Tribunal is a single entity existing across the entire Marvel Multiverse. He is the Judge of the Marvel Multiverse and the arbitrator of cosmic justice. He is above the likes of the Celestials, Galactus, Eternity, Death, and Infinity. The Living Tribunal doesn't have his own free will, as he serves the will of the creator of the Marvel Multiverse, The One Above All.

Why was The Living Tribunal Able to Judge Adam but not Thanos?

*INFINITY GAUNTLET AND INFINITY WAR SPOILERS*

So Adam Warlock gains control of the Infinity Gauntlet at the end of "The Infinity Gauntlet" but at the start of "Infinity War" we see Adam has divided up the gems among the infinity watch because the Living Tribunal ruled that Adam was not worthy of the Godhood provided by the gauntlet. However, in "The Infinity Gauntlet" we see that the combined force of TLT and just about every other major cosmic force (including Eternity) couldn't even scratch Thanos while he wielded the gauntlet.

So I'm wondering if a) Adam agreed to except whatever verdict the TLT laid down or b) Marvel is just being wildly inconsistent.

Warlock just agreed. The whole point of Warlock splitting into 3 beings was that in order to use the gems properly and without bias he would rid himself of both good and evil making himself into a perfectly nutaral being... Then Thanos got it and you know how it goes from there.

Well Adam getting in his face probably caused his Judgement. Basically Thanos didn't have the Gauntlet long enough for LT to get to it

No. The LT was there as the cosmic battle in space against Thanos and was soundly defeated and held in stasis along with the rest of the cosmic beings before Nebula stole the Gauntlet...@Enosisik said:

"Warlock just agreed." Thats what I was figuring. "..you know how it goes from there.." actually I don't. Still making my way through Infinity War, lol.

Lol there's nothing ti be better at. The IG is like having the power of god. Warlock unlike Thanos has no real agenda with the IG other than keeping it away from Thanos and anyone else who is not worthy to hold it.

Yeah, but Warlock is pretty awesome, it makes more sense to me that he willing gave up godhood than him just being more inept than Thanos.

No, Adam did have an agenda. He truly though he was the one to properly wield the the gauntlet. He thought he was a being who could do Eternity's job better than Eternity. The living tribunal forced him to give up godhood though, and there we get the infinity watch. Also, there we get the whole purpose of this thread....

I mean more as far as a specific goal.. Thanes wants to impress death by killing the universe while Warlock wants to be perfectly even between good and evil.

The Living Tribunal never was present to be defeated by Thanos with the IG. Thanos only had the IG for a short period, especially after he defeated the other abstracts. He defeated Eternity by becoming Eternity, and that's when he lost the gauntlet to Nebula when he wasn't paying attention. Warlock got it briefly after that and the Living Tribunal showed up.

Basically, Adam agreed to a judgment. Eternity did not see Adam fit for the power of the IG. During the trial, it was brought up by Adam the "what if" he didn't agree to relinquish the IG. The LT said he would take it from him, but at the cost of many realities. Adam agreed to split up the gems among those of his choosing, creating the Infinity Watch.

@jloneblackheart: Egawd. You're right. I thought TLT was among the other cosmic entities that engage Thanos but he is not. However at the beginning of the infinity gauntlet TLT says he won't get involved because he just see Thanos replacing Eternity as natural selection. Odd he's ok with Thanos replacing Eternity but not Adam.
