Villains Month is over and it's time to get back to our regularly scheduled stories. In the pages of the Green Lantern comics, there's something big headed their way. His name is Relic. While we've seen him just before Villains Month and saw his backstory, now is the time for the action to begin.

With the five-part Lights Out story beginning in this week's GREEN LANTERN #24, we will bring you a five-part series of interviews with the artists for each chapter. First up is Billy Tan.

Comic Vine: Did you have to do any prep or research before starting this issue?

Billy Tan: Not really. Most of the characters or elements been designed. If we need it, references are provided for us as we moving along.

CV: Do all the Lantern Corps appear here?

BT: I don't got to draw them all but the whole Corps are involved.

CV: Were you told what would happen in each part, in the other series, in order to set the tone?

BT: Since my issue goes first, I wasn't told what would happen to other books. But I believe the creators on the following book would have to know what’s going on the books prior.

CV: How brutal do things get in the first part?

BT: It's the first issue so things are just warming up. By the end of this issue, the readers will be stunned of what happened.

CV: Do you get to draw the death of any Lanterns in this issue?

BT: No. Not on this one.

This looks so cool. Relic seems like a really original character from the looks of it.

Relic's definitely one of the coolest villains to come out of the New 52 so far, can't wait to see what happens with this. Hopefully Kyle ends this event with a mask that doesn't look like a pair of 3-D glasses made from stone.

All is not well with Saint Walker. Hopefully after this Light's Out business is over and done with they'll bring back the blue lanterns. And speaking of blue people, I hope we get the chance to learn more about the new guardians. They've been kind of quiet.

Might get this. Been hard to jump onboard a GL title lately, plus I think Tan's art could really suit this book here.

I'm sure Saint Walker will become a Green Lantern, since the Blue Corps is now gone.

Would it be ok for me to jump on board reading this issue, without any previous knowledge. If not where should I start because it looks interesting.

If you can't start from the beginning of the New 52, I'd start with issue twenty-one. It's the end of the Geoff Johns era of Green Lantern, but the beginning of a new chapter.

MEH! I've seen larger. (referring to Relic, not anything else before you ask)

I've been REALLY loving everything in the GL books in the New 52. There were some bumps for a while (like most of the Red Lanterns series so far, up until Soule came on with #21) but they've mostly been good. And Venditti and Tan have breathed a lot of life into the tired galactic epics that Geoff Johns loves. Which were good, but they seemed to get old after a while. Like towards the end of his run.

I agree. He doesn't say much, but his concept definitely packs a punch and is a really interesting addition to the Green Lantern mythos.

Agreed. Or if you've been reading any of the GL-related books of late (besides Larfleeze which doesn't tie-in at all so far) you can just pick up the issues of this crossover. But I highly recommend buying at least Venditti and Tan's current run. It's really good :)

Anybody else getting a Galactus type vibe from this Relic character? I mean instead of a being who "existed in the universe that came before this one" who is now extremely powerful and feeds off of planets we have a being who "existed in the universe before this one" and feeds off the emotional spectrum.

Um...he actually doesn't feed off the emotional spectrum. The whole point is that he saw the Lightsmiths of his universe destroy everything by depleting their emotional spectrum, so he's trying to stop the same thing from happening to this universe. So, in short, he's doesn't feed off the emotional spectrum, he's trying to get the Green Lanterns and the other Corps to stop using it themselves.
