I just got a little deathnote immitation, and it's got all the rules in it. But then I noticed something... When Light was testing it out the second time. He writes the name of the guy who had the gang, trying to rape that girl. But he writes it in all the different ways you could spell it, which is about 7 ways. However one of the rules written down, is that "The deathnote will be rendered useless if the victem's name is misspelled four times." What do you make of that guys?

Light didn't make up any rules right after the biker who attempted to rape the girl - died. He didn't write the fake rule until way after, and the main fake rule he wrote was: "If you don't write in the Death Note for 13 days you will die".  Then there were another two fake ones but they weren't as "vital".

I'm really really digging Death Note right now.  I'm only on book four though.

I havent read any of the manga just saw the anime but its awsome!

I've watched the first two episodes.  You can watch them all (free) at joost.com (along with Bleach and Naruto).  It's too bad that some people are so quick to say that manga/animes suck when they haven't even given it a chance.  Sure there are some bad ones just as there are bad comics.  I don't see why it has to be one or the other.  I like them both.
